Guest guest
Roxanne my orchid collection started last Thanksgiving when my daughter gave me a white orchid. then at the garden club, one lady said that she collects orchids. So i sent her a picture of mine. She told me that it is a phalaenopsis. Then she invited me to go to the local orchid society meeting with her. someone died, the group broke up the collection, and i bought a small orchid for $5.-- in Feb 2008. It is alive and growing, but i have no idea as to what the flower will look like. All of the members got an orchid at the society's banquet. Then at the last meeting all of the members got another orchid, plus I won one at the raffle, and there were some free Cattyla's (I don't know the story behind them). So now I am up to 6 orchids. I haven't seen all of the flowers yet. The one that i got at Thanksgiving just bloomed again. I'll try to send pictures of my collection. Guest guest
Hey Pink, You've just traded one monster for another! Orchids are really addictive. Once all of yours bloom, you'll discover which ones you like the best and focus mainly on those. It's easier to keep similar types on which the care is the same. You know, same potting mixtures, same watering requirements, same light needs, same re-potting etc. The phalenopsis was one of my favorites. It is so graceful with multiple blooms on that long slender stem. And the flowers look like velvet and last a great deal longer than most of the others. I look forward to seeing your collection. Keep me posted when you add more (I know you will!) Guest guest
Joyce, I have gotten several orchids and some are still growing since the flowers fell off but a couple looked like they were dieing so I got refunds at Home Depot (where they are gauranteed for one year). I bought a book at Lowes " Orchids " and one " Roses " and plan to do some reading in them since I will have to be taking life easy when I go home.
