Guest guest
Bus searching for donors Residents are being urged to sign up to save a life when a donor bus makes a stop in Dudley. The bus, provided by the charity Transplants in Mind, will tour the borough next week to raise awareness about organ donation. Health bosses also hope the bus will encourage more people from ethnic minority communities to consider organ donation. Nix, secretary of Transplants in Mind, which aims to reduce the number of people on transplant waiting lists, said: “The donor bus is a highly visual and educational promotional tool. We use it to promote awareness of organ donation and transplantation and to encourage the public to register their willingness to become a donor.” Organized by Dudley Black Carers and the Halesowen Asian Elderly Association the bus will travel around the borough, starting at the Claughton Centre, Blowers Green, Dudley on Wednesday, then St ’s Church Hall, Halesowen on Thursday, with its final destination being Dudley Town Centre on Saturday. More than 7,000 people in the UK need an organ transplant that could save or dramatically improve their life. Most are waiting for a kidney, others for a heart, lung or liver transplant. But less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year. Little, director of public health at Dudley Primary Care Trust added: “The donor bus is an ideal way for the PCT to engage with local communities in order to heighten awareness of organ donation.” Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes!
