Even when they are capped off and drain internally, as mine does, they need frequent changing to keep from plugging up and daily flushing to keep them working as long as possible. But they can help the liver to keep on plugging along. My stent has been in a little over three years and even though the tx center drs. thought I would have a short wait when I went back on the waiting list two years ago it has not turned out that way. I am still somewhere between 6th and 12th on the list for my blood type in MI, and my MELD has remained stable in the 20 to 21 range. Considering all that, I am feeling well as I celebrate the 9th anniversary of my transplant - yesterday was a better day to celebrate, sunny with temperatures in the 70's, a wonderful day to turn 60! Today it has been cold and windy with freezing rain and snow in the air. So I'll celebrate indoors. Tim R
