Guest guest
Hi Marti, I still remember something you said a long time back. You said your son spent his teens fighting for his life and now he has to learn how to live. It seems like it should be happily ever after, but he's probably quite short on skills like good study habits. He lived with a sense of doom so long it's hard to develop a sense of purpose all at once. My husband is a professor and has referred people to the Dean of Students' office to help them work out a plan to pass his class. He doesn't want them to fail either. The college's mental health services and academic advisors may be able to help him with those skills and intercede with professors to get incompletes instead of F's so he can complete the work over the summer. Then he can start with a lighter work load in the fall. But he needs to feel the heat, or he won't be motivated. The time to do this is now, not finals week. You can call the Dean's office yourself if he won't. Good luck to all of you Martha (MA) > -----Original Message----- > Can any of you that had your tx as a teen or 20 something tell me if you > got a case of the stupids after? I plan on sitting with him and coming up with a plan. MartiMartha wrote: Hi Marti,I still remember something you said a long time back. Guest guest
Marti, I think you are getting some sound advice. I would look into what kinda help your state offers for health insurance. And Martha's suggestion on working with the school. Your son is not your typical student and therefore may be allowed extra help. BUT HE has to want it. Then there is the possiblity he is not ready for college. Do your best to see if he knows what he wants and support that, or if he doesn't ask him if he needs help finding what that is. It is going to be hard because he spent most of his life fighting for it... and now what... He is in my prayers, Litsa DH TX 1/03/07 for PSC
