Guest guest
Thank you to everyone for your responses. I went for the MRI the other day but there seems to still be great debate about the mass. The radiologist thinks it is ok but the urologist and the gastroenterologist seem to think that it probably needs to be gotten out of there. If it were not for the PSC and the drugs that I am taking, then the urologist would be content with just watching the mass for another 3 months. He said that kidney cancer is caused by a problem with the body's immune system, and we already know that my immune system is all messed up. It also does not respond well to treatment and it is difficult to detect with needle biopsy or MRI. The Gastro just doesn't think it is worth the chance. I have an appointment with the surgeon next Monday and we will see what he says but I am prepared to have that part of my kidney removed just to be safe. Thanks again. If you have had cancer and are 5 years cancer-free it is considered a cure. But they will check very carefully when it comes time to be listed. When I was referred to the transplant team for biliary bypass surgery, they were extra careful about checking a swollen lymph node in my armpit and wanted a new mammogram. Fortunately it was due to a hangnail! Do you know that the kidney problem is cancer, or are you just worried at this point? Guest guest
Hi , I have bilateral cysts in my kidneys that were discovered during my routine MRCP last year...one of them is almost 6cm. Thankfully, they tell me they are nothing to worry about, just cysts, but I worry anyway since my kidneys hurt often...especially during cholangitis attacks! And it's especially worrisome because my father passed away from kidney cancer 2 years ago. I wish his kidney cancer had been monitored and discovered earlier. He had no clue until he had noticeable blood in his urine and by that point it had already metastasized to the liver, lungs, and brain. It was a rough road for him with no good treatment options and he survived only 6 months from diagnosis. I have not researched the those options since then, but at the time it seemed to be one of those cancers that brightest and best hope was to find it early and excise it. I'm currently preparing my records to try to be evaluated for transplant and hope to get some better grasp on what might be going on with my own kidneys at the same time. I guess I have to wonder if maybe cysts can be a precursor to cancer in some people? I wish you all the best and hope you are able to get some more definitive advice from your doctors.
