Hi Sheila welcome to the group!

I'm new here to the group myself and still pretty new at diabetes. I was

diagnosed with type 2 Nov 29th.

It sounds like they may have caught your diabetes early :) are you type 1 or 2?

Some suggestions that really helped me - Take all the classes they offer you,

the classes help alot! There's alot to learn and you'll find yourself with so

many questions. The group here is great! and will help out :D

Hi Sheila,

How long had it been since you ate when you got the reading of 133.

When you get the results of the glucose tolerance test, please let us know

what they are.

Hi,

I had so many numbers in my head. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for

a copy of my results. I plan to request a copy on Monday.

From what I can recall, I went in for a routine blood test (I was

supposed to have surgery this coming Thursday). Anyhow, my glucose

was 133 but I wasn't fasting. They had me fast and it was 105.

Then, my doctor sent me for the glucose tolerance test. I really

don't remember those numbers.

Not bad at all, considering you're also under stress

because of the up coming surgery.

Hi ,

Some doctors push meds others do not.

I have been off meds since Feb 2001. I have no desire to go back on them.

It may happen at some point, but I'm trying my best to stay off them as long

as I can. This is just my opinion.

To take meds or not should be a decision that you discuss with your doctor

and weigh all the pros and cons.

I think it is more common to have a doctor want to treat it agressively, to

get your blood sugars down as quickly as possible. Even if they put you on

meds, you don't have to stay on them forever. One of the nurses at my dr's

office said that is isn't uncommon to be put on insulin for a sort period of

time while you work on diet and exercise.

Diabetes isn't just a common cold. There are very serious complications

because of it. Unless you have been checking your sugars for quite some

time, you have no way of knowing if you have had these high of sugars for a

week, a month or longer.

What would you do if your doctor told you that you had heart disease, and

offered you nothing but a diet?
