Guest guest
Fay Contact the Gift of Life group, giftoflife.org They routinely send out supplies for presentations such as yours. People can always register as an organ donor by going to that site and filling in the information. You are doing a good thing by talking to students. Different states have different programs and laws, I'm sure you have checked that out. I went to a volunteer training session and received up-to-date information for Michigan, But other states may have other requirements. Take Care MizKitSee what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
I am wanting to make a presentation at my daughter's high school about organ donation. I have PSC and another father at her high school has had a kidney transplant and is need of another. I would like all students who are of age to sign up to be an organ donor. Anyone have any ideas as to where I could get 300 or more organ donor cards? Also, have any of you given a similar presentation? Can I get a copy of Klug's film? We live in a very small community in west Texas, so getting a dynamic speaker would be difficult. I would love your input on this. I am trying to put together something before the end of May. Thanks, Beth Fay
Guest guest
Hi Beth Fay, Getting a speaker is fairly easy. All you need to do is visit Southwest Transplant Alliance’s web site: http://www.organ.org That’s the OPO that covers West Texas (East Texas too – that’s us.) They have a speaker request form you can fill out, they can also help you with any other requests you might have; organ donor cards, banners, etc. Tons of info on their site. If you need anything else, please just ask. Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes! Guest guest
I have done quite a few of these talks at local schools. You can get the statistics from on line or your local OPO such as people waiting. They can also give you info on the difference between organ and tissue donors etc. When you speak do it from the heart. Because my son was the pne waiting the tx it really hit home to the kids cause they saw it was one of them. You can have the other man speak and point out it can be one of their dads. These kids truly think they are immortal. I tend to be rather graphic to get their attention. If you have someone from your area MOD squad they are great. The MOD squad are mothers of donors. Guest guest
Beth, Google Donor Dudes and you will come up with the Klug Foundation. Click on Donor Dudes on his site and you will read about a terrific way for High School students to become aware of and sign up for organ donation. This may be a way to get the donor cards you are looking for. Good Luck! Omaha/Tarheel Tim

Editorial in today's Aspen Times: " On Saturday, Klug's new film, " Ride of Your Life, " will have its local premiere at the Wheeler Opera House. Sponsored by the Klug Foundation, the film intertwines stories about Klug and two other organ transplant candidates waiting for their chances at new life. We recommend people attend the event, especially those who aren't familiar with Klug's story, but the film's local premiere gives us an opportunity to drive home Klug's message about the importance of organ donation.
