Guest guest
New Transplant Center Opens In Orlando Thursday April 12, 2007 Florida Hospital has opened a new transplant center in Orlando The Florida Hospital Transplant Center is promising a lifesaving transformation to people in need of a new pancreas or liver, WESH 2 News reported. Some people waiting for a transplant are so ill that without a new organ, their life expectancy is a few days or less. Diedra Pittman was in desperate need of a new kidney when her daughter, Brittany , decided to donate the organ to her mother. The transplant operation took place on Mother's Day last year. Pittman was on dialysis for 10 years, but she was able to travel the world after her operation because she no longer needed to worry about frequent trips to the hospital. " It's such a better quality of life. Actually, the first day, I got up and said, 'It’s me!' I just looked so much better, " Pittman said. Next week, a new team of physicians transplanted to Florida Hospital will do a trial run on a ghost patient just to make sure they are ready for the real thing. " It's a huge commitment. We know the community needs the service, " Florida Hospital representative Tim Jankiewicz said. More transplant candidates will get off the waiting list for a lifesaving transplant, thanks to the new center. Before the new center opened, the closest liver transplant centers were in Gainesville and Tampa. Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes!
