Guest guest
Martha and Everyone else on Fish Oil~ Marco also takes fish oil but his LFT's have not really improved. He does remain asymptomatic, despite going septic after a recent ERCP! Thank God he recovered from that! My question is--what brand does everyone take and which brand has the highest amount of DHA? I don't post often but do appreciate the support and vast amount of info. This group is so impressive. Wishing everyone good health! Guest guest
My husband and I take fish oil for cholestrol. It helps lower trigicerides. What does it do for LFT's? I haven't heard taking it for that. Thanks Tina Re: Martha-Fish Oil Martha and Everyone else on Fish Oil~ Marco also takes fish oil but his LFT's have not really improved. Guest guest
I take Spectrum Essentials Cod Liver oil which has higher DHA (240 mg) than EPA (150 mg). I take 4 x 500 mg/day. The ongoing study by Dr Freedman uses Martek Labs, which makes DHA from a plant source (might have been algae or yeast, but anyway, not animal), so they are using DHA alone. You can get that online. Dr Freedman thought that since DHA and not EPA prevents liver disease in a mouse colitis model, EPA might interfere with DHA because they compete for the same receptor. This mouse model involves inducing colitis with dextran. In CFTR knockout mice- mice that lack the cystic fibrosis ion transporter gene- they get not only colitis but also liver disease like PSC. Whether this model applies to people is a subject of research. He also has found that most patients with PSC have a variation in CFTR, but these mutations aren't necessarily the ones that would cause CF if you had two copies of the mutation. So I have no idea if this logic will really bear out, but we are hoping it will! Martha (MA) My question is--what brand does everyone take and which brand has the highest amount of DHA?
