Transplant creates new ties

Six months after he received a liver transplant in

December 2001, Mike Strauss tried to write a letter to the family of his organ

donor in Salt Lake City.

The words would not come. But after attending the United States Transplant Games in Minneapolis,

Minn., in 2004 and meeting some donor

families there, Utah State

University's athletic media

relations director decided to try again. The results were nothing but positive. " By the time Mike contacted us, we had

come to grips with it, " she said. " It was

like, 'Wow, she is gone, but she still makes a difference.'

" The families now get

together for football and basketball games, and Kami

recently had dinner at Strauss's parents' home in Colorado…...
