I had two instruments in Pulmonary Rehab. The most common one is an incentive spirometer.

Here is one at $6.95:

http://www.allegromedical.com/respiratory-therapy-c534/airlife-volumetric-incentive-spirometer-without-valve-4000ml-capacity-p190080.html

Another model at $7.95

http://www.allegromedical.com/respiratory-therapy-c534/voldyne-5000-volumetric-exerciser-5000ml-capacity-p174158.html

Then there is a inspiratory muscle trainer

http://www.medexsupply.com/respiratory-breathing-therapy-products-respiratory-miscellaneous-respironics-pflex-inspiratory-muscle-trainer-10-cs-x_pid-17494.html

I did find that trainer on ebay in individual units.

You may be able to find these items locally.

And there is an expiratory muscle trainer that I have not used and wouldn't unless suggested by doctor as I'm not familiar with it being used for PF and it does require some calibration I believe.

Well gee whiz Bruce, that seems like an easy thing to do! I'd hate to see the bottom line cost for delivery of a $65 item however. lol

Hi All. I have a question..how long did you or do youstay in Pulmonary Rehab? With insurance I pay forty a session and it is an amount that is too difficult for more then the six weeks I did. That was a year ago. BY the way MB I was 49 when I was dx ...now 52 I thought I was too young !!!!! NOW we know how truly unfair illness is. My heart goes out to those who just started to live their dreams and this horrendous challenge struck.

My rehab suggested 40 sessions. I took a different approach though.

Actually cheaper than last time I looked. Depending on what airport I'm

flying into anywhere from $1100-2000, coach of course. The only time

I've been there was in 1980 and flew first class for business and ticket

was $4500.

Hi ,

My pulmonary rehab program was 3 hours, 3 times a week for 8 weeks. The insurance I had at the time paid for everything with a $20 co-pay for each calender month I was enrolled. At the time I thought it was an odd way to do it but Aetna sometimes marches to a different drummer....lol I realize it can get expensive without good insurance coverage but I'd encourage you to do as much of it as you can for as long as you can. The impact of rehab on my recovery was IMMENSE!! As a matter of fact now that my Medicare is kicking in shortly I am going to ask my pulmo if he can write me an order to go through rehab again. I know Duke has an awesome rehab program and it could only do me good.

...just in passing. Wow, $40/session for rehab is horrible and with insurance. I paid $5 copay when I was in rehab. To my knowledge, rehab is usually Rx for so many sessions/months or whatever and then re-evaluated. Depends a lot on what you are going for and/or what you are trying to achieve.

I could not have gone to rehab had it cost me that much.

You were dx young. Heck, you're still young. I turned 70 in August and I'm still

wondering where the years went.

I do regret I don't travel like we used to. Airline travel fell by the wayside some time ago but we loved Amtrak. Even the bedrooms are to small for comfort tho'. What with O2 stuff to drag along.

Most insurance will pay for you to go through cardiac or pulmonary rehab once every 12 months if your doctor deems it necessary. I can't imagine a doctor saying no if you requested to go back to rehab!

And if a doctor says no, you tell him yes. I'm amazed its not automatic,

but I had to ask to get my referral to respiratory rehab. Left to wait

for instructions from my original doctor, I would not be using a

treadmill or incentive spirometer or anything else. Now, I couldn't do

some of the rehab things because of other conditions, so we did the ones

I could do.

When I reach the stage I can't treadmill or get out and walk, I'll at

least set a path in my apartment and slowly do some laps up and down or

around it. There is some level that nearly all of us can do.

thanks once again bruce!

i have just sent a question to that cheaper one on ebay, the one that

you said people over there get too, to see if it comes with a warranty

as it didnt say. the other dearer one has a 2year guarantee, so hmmmm,

see what they say and i will make a decision! your right about if

something goes wrong... i may be better getting the one from australia,

the dearer one with 2yr guarantee, so much easier if something goes

wrong!

it also comes in pink! ha!!!

i love pink,, and besides, if its for sickness, why not put a groovy

spin on it, so not so boring when i will be looking at it everyday!!!

Reality is that if its delivered in good condition the warranty may not

be critical on them, especially cheaper models. ly, unless there is

a problem when delivered, most of them are going to blame any future

problems on you. And, they'll probably be within reason as they don't

know how many times you've dropped it. I know I've sure dropped mine a

bunch.

And how did I know the groovy pink got your attention? It does look

stylish. I want a stylish one now...not pink though.
