Guest guest
Hello all, I just had my 6th colonoscopy over the last 11 years since I was DX with UC and PSC. This is the first time that I had a small polyp that was removed. He also found a very small tumor. He sent a piece out for a biopsy and I will get the results in a week. My GI thinks that it is a good chance of being cancer and suggest that I get my colon removed and have a J-Pouch constructed from my small intestines. I don't have much inflammation at all, although I did have a bleeding session last Aug. and two months ago. Last Aug. he did a sigmoidoscopy, but didn't find anything and wasn't sure why. He was also at a loss for this last bleed. He says that I can get a second opinion, but anyone that tells me not to have my colon removed is crazy. He is also suggesting that even if it comes back negative that I should probably have my colon removed. How many of you have had a J-Pouch? How many have had tumors, benign or cancerous and did you just have that section of your colon cut out or did you have your colon removed? I would like opinions from anyone. Thanks, Larry, 57, Baltimore, UC, PSC 95 See what's free at AOL.com.
Guest guest
Hi Larry, Sorry to hear you are experiencing trouble. Getting a second opinion is always a good idea. From my experience with my son in 1999, his UC was out of control, he was very, very sick and the J-pouch surgery is the way he decided to go. This was performed at the Texas Medical Center. He had great doctors and medical team support there and everything went as smoothly as any major surgery could go. Within 5 or 6 months, Joe felt like a new man! He had many happy, healthy and productive years following his decision to get this surgery. When the pathology reports came back regarding his highly diseased colon, it was dysplastic to the point of near malignancy - so at that time it was obvious he had made the right choice. Having this surgery or not, of course is a personal decision everyone with UC must consider carefully and make for themselves. As for Joe, I know he was glad he did it. Guest guest
Larry, My name is Eve and I am 31 years old. I found out of my UC much too late. I had my full colon removed and got a J pouch. You see the year prior my colonoscopy came back normal. When I was diagnosed a year later I was literally discreeting my colon. The disease came progress rapidly. Today it is almost 2 years since my removal. I'll tell you it is hard. But I my UC is so much better now then before. It does take awhile to get used to the changes. But if you ever have those aching pains that have you buckling over. You could soon appreciate the relief and freedom from those episodes. The thought of having such a surgery is scary. But in the long run you can have a lil more control over UC episodes. Patience is the most important thing to remember. It does not all come over night, but well worth the wait. > > > Hello all, > > I just had my 6th colonoscopy over the last 11 years since I was DX with UC > and PSC. Guest guest
Dear Larry,Next month will be two years since my son had his colon removed and his j-pouch.It was his decision after two life threatening hospitalizations due to complications from his UC.We did everything we could to avoid it but in the end all the experts agreed it was time to remove it.Bill is doing very well with the pouch and is glad that he is not so very sick with the UC anymore. He does have pouchitis that he controls with daily cipro. The surgery gave him back his life. Hitting the BR 10 or more times a day and every-time he ate was not good quality of life. After the surgery his appetite returned and he is now a normal weight.A second opinion is never a bad idea but listen to your body too. Bill knew when it was time.Best of luck,Lee mother of Bill 24 PSC/UC 04 j-pouch 05 Hello all, I just had my 6th colonoscopy over the last 11 years since I was DX with UC and PSC. Guest guest
Got ya beat, with colonoscopies anyway (at least 20, since 1977). He's only removed polyps once, however, and no tumors - but it was about 10 years ago (none since). I'd (obviously) wait for the biopsy results, and then get a second opinion if needed. Guest guest
Hi, I had UC for 16 years, then the doc found pre-cancerous cells. Of course my colon was severely scarred and we decided to remove it and have jpouch. I went to the Cleveland Clinic for this surgery and I have not regretted it at all. That was 1999.
