Hi Trish - we just got Sam a bell helmet that's more of a shell so it

doesn't cover his ears as much. It's ANSI/SNELL approved so it's a good

helmet - we actually checked it out with the injury prevention center

before buying. We got our at Toys R Us.

Hi Trish. We went to a local bike shop and tried a bunch of them on.

Luckily, Emmett has a huge head so we were able to find one intended

for an older child (Emmett's 4) that worked really well. Don't know the

brand name off hand, but it's one of those torpedo shaped ones. It was

$40, a small price for a safe (and feedback-free) head. The reason it

works is it's shape, I think. It doesn't sit very low near his ear.

Good luck!

Sounds like he and Emmett have the same helmet! Emmett liked the

flames. He said it would keep his head warm. This from the child who

has moisture issues with his ear mold because his head sweats so much,

even in winter in New England. :-)

I'd bet a local bike shop would be helpful with this. Our shop was very

patient with us the day we spent 45 minutes trying on every helmet in

the shop with Emmett yelling, " Feedback, no good " every few minutes.

Maybe they could replace the strap that's in the larger sized helmet to

accommodate his head.
