Have any of you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism along with your psc? My TSH level was low and so I just had another blood test and am waiting for the results. I went to my pcp because I thought my liver enzymes were high. My Alkaline phosphatase is 762. My AST is 109 and my ALt is 86. These numbers aren't unusually high for me. My other liver tests were in the normal range. I'm itching like crazy. In the past I've only itched like this if my enzymes were higher. So I believe that the thyroid isssue is exasperating the itching. I haven't been sleeping well and have been shaky, breathless, and jittery, all symptoms of a high thyroid. I would appreciate any feedback from you. Thanks, Beth

Hyp-O-thyroid has a HIGH TSH level and a low (or normal) free T4. Hyp-ER-thyroid has low TSH and a high (or normal) free T4. has hypothyroidism, also. Because of his absorption issues, his TSH would not come down even though we had him on an unusually large dose of synthroid (175 mcg in an 8 year old). We finally switched him to IV synthroid, and now we're excited having his TSH at 5 or 6. (It would go as high as 120+ giving him the pills.) The itching can definitely be aggrevated with hypothyroid, because it slows your body down, and causes dry skin, dry hair, fatigue, constipation, some weight gain (except in ), lower basal body temperature, and other issues. The dry skin alone or the PSC alone can cause itching - pair them up and I'm sure it's unbearable. I used to lotion ALL the time. I use that "Udderly Smooth" on him.

Worked great when it was just the dry skin from the thyroid. (Fairly inexpensive at Wal-Mart.) Anyway, the symptoms you describe fit moreso with hypERthyroidism, than with hypO (which makes sense if your TSH came back low). You should have your doctor check your free T4 level, also, if that's not the other blood test they did. If you don't mind sharing, I'd be interested in hearing what your thyroid levels are. Hope they get you figured out soon!!!! An out of whack thyroid can throw your entire system off very easily. AmiBeth Fay wrote: Have any of you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism along with your psc?
