Guest guest
Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with PSC/UC in 2001. For about four years I have had a high white blood cell count (wbc) of 14. In Nov. 2006 I had my first bacterial cholangitis attack and my wbc went up to 20. After a round of antibiotics, ERCP/balloon dilation and another round of antibiotics, my wbc is still 20. My hepatologist said the high wbc is just part of PSC because of chronic inflammation. Has anyone else in the group had a chronically high wbc? If you have, has your doctor given the same explanation? Thanks for any information you can provide. (Sacramento) dx PSC/UC 2001
Guest guest
Hi , I'm no expert and can only describe our experience, which is exactly the opposite of yours..... , has consistently had low White blood cell counts and in fact has been neutropenic for about the last 15 months, Neutrophil counts averages between 1.2 and 1.6. His Doc has explained that the drugs that he is on for UC tend to suppress the immune system a bit, which explains the low Neutrophil count. Are you currently taking any medications that could be having an opposite effect on you? I know that there is a specific blood test that can be done to measure the amount of inflammatory process going on in your body at any given time. This test may be of value.... In Australia the test is labelled CRP,(C reactive protein). Anyway, hope you are feeling better soon. Is the Northern California group still active?. Iam transferring my medical care to the VA Sacramento/UC . Do you see anyone at that is particularly good?. I know the majority of the medical teams there work in both the VA and at in the private health care sector.
