It is an extremely powerful medication, and is not to be taken likely. On the other hand, it is one of the " Big Guns " for treating autoimmune diseases (except PSC, of course). I'll take the side effects of prednisone any day, over that of not breathing (due to asthma). On another note, I struggle with saying we have compromised or depressed immune systems; we really have overactive immune systems (unless you are taking immunosuppressants like prednisone, CellCept, Prograf, etc.). Ulcers are also thought to be an immune system malfunction/over-reaction. I understand your meaning, though - it IS pretty frustrating.
