Prednisone DOES have side effects - but the condition you are treating is typically much, much worse. It is an extremely powerful medication, and is not to be taken likely. On the other hand, it is one of the " Big Guns " for treating autoimmune diseases (except PSC, of course).

I'll take the side effects of prednisone any day, over that of not breathing (due to asthma).

On another note, I struggle with saying we have compromised or depressed immune systems; we really have overactive immune systems (unless you are taking immunosuppressants like prednisone, CellCept, Prograf, etc.). Ulcers are also thought to be an immune system malfunction/over-reaction.

I understand your meaning, though - it IS pretty frustrating.
