Thursday nights just always seem to be messed up for me....tonight was

phone call. Many weeks are taking care of the kitties for whom I'm non

custodial parent as their mother goes to see her mother on Thursdays.

But, I will try to get back to chat sometime soon.

I always remember living in New York and, as expected, my coworkers and

friends always had their huge dinners for breaking fasts planned. Also,

you could count on restaurants being especially crowded.

I know some Jewish are far more adherent to their holy days than others

but I also respected that their was something special being done and

some sacrifice being made. I even include the passover food in that

list, having been supplied passover cookies even. But seeing people

honor and think of their beliefs is special I think in our world.

Some other religions have similar. When you see the more devout muslims

celebrate the month of Ramadan, fasting from dawn to sunset during that

time you know they are thinking of and honoring their beliefs.

Having a Hindu work for me, I was very impressed by the long list of

Festivals and Holidays. I loved learning about each of them from her.

Some seemed very special to me. They are very family oriented. I

especially like the one respecting the tie or bond between brother and

sister. I liked that they had a day of thanksgiving that was religious

and giving thanks within their believes. Outside of a blessing over

dinner how much giving thanks do we do on thanksgiving, beyond being

thankful we're still able to walk after dinner.

I've seen Christianity at least in many cities and churces lose some of

the emphasis toward honoring its religious believes in special ways.

Easter Morning and Christmas Eve services aren't attended as well in

many as they once were. We also don't seem to respect lent as it once

was with forty days of fasting and prayer. Do do seem to do better with

the pre-lenten celebrations of Carnival an Mardi Gras.

My point is that, whatever the religion I respect and hold in honor the

person who truely respects and honors the traditions of his church

Men are moved by celebration, honoring and respecting their beliefs.

Almost all religions and churchs have regular programs and activites.

How many are, our chldren and grandchildren active in.

I just tood a very small church and listed a few things it does:

Habitat for Humanity

Dallas Area Interfaith

Luther King Day

Community Reading Day

Community Garden

The Caring Committee supports and supplements the minister's efforts,

occasionally providing transportation, running errands or preparing a

meal. Mostly, however, our volunteers provide a cheerful voice and a

sympathetic ear.

Community Harvest where the food raised is shared with the community

This Particular church has a labyrinth and a memorial garden.

Activities include Womens Fellowship, Men's Fellowship, Earth Spirit,

Outdoor adventures, friends and family, Caregivers Play Group, Circle

Suppers, Music and Arts, Readers, Movie Lovers

I know we're all struggling at different levels in our lives. Many here

show great respect for their sabbaths and holy days, although somtimes

not that for youf forefathers (When I was a child Sunday was spent all

the family at home at my grandparents.

Even so we often don't show the reverence of the though to the days most

important in our religion and world.

I've also been looking over volunteer programs again, and finding some I

could potentially do at this time.I'm going to look further to see if

something is possible.

I know some here are very faithful in their religions. Just wanted to

note that there are things each of us can do in our own way to respect

our religion and also through that find ways to be involved and help, in

spite of our limitations.
