Guest guest
Today noticed his ankles swell. The left more than the right. They are tight, and considering what a bean pole he is anyway, the swelling is pronounced. This just occured this afternoon. He was fine this morning. His blood pressure has always been fantastic, and has never had any issues with ascites. Any ideas? We do have a call into the doc just to be on the safe side. He has kept his legs up since he noticed it, but the swelling hasn't reduced. in Texas Brother, , 30, US & PSC
Guest guest
Hi , It’s called edema (fluid build up in legs and feet). It happens to Ken all the time. It can be some what painful to walk, but not a big deal pain wise. It’s just another one of those nasty symptoms of cirrhosis. Keeping his legs up is a good idea and of course he has to stay away from salt. His doc might want to put him on a mild diuretic too. Summer time seems to make things worse. By the way, I wish you could see both of my feet right now – they are the perfect picture of edema and I don’t have PSC! (High blood pressure) Here is a good web site about edema - http://www.medicinenet.com/edema/article.htm Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes! Guest guest
Sometimes an overdose of salt can cause swelling. A bag of potato chips, hefty dinner of barbeque, a can of soup, or other high salt food can cause ankles or other body parts to swell. I remember feeling my jeans get tight within a half hour of eating too much salt. Take Care MizKit See what's free at AOL.com.
Guest guest
Thanks for all the reply's. We are just watching it for now. He currently isn't experiencing any pain. Just swelling. He has never reacted to salt-so this is all new. I keep calling him the elephant man (I'm such a supportive sister *wink*). His doctor's office said to call again if it gets worse, or pain starts in. He was some what numb last night, but it was short lived. So for now lots of elevation....Thanks again...I will be reading up on that web page Barb-thanks. I know I swell all the time-I am super salt sensitive-never add the stuff to anything other wise a balloon I will be....hehe in TexasBrother, , 30, UC & PSC
