Guest guest
Has anyone experienced upper right quadrant pain without any other symptoms? I have recently rejoined the group. I was diagnosed in 1998 with UC and PSC. My UC has been in " remission " for about 6 years and I have had no symptoms of the PSC and my lab values have been normal since I've been on Urso. I started on Urso soon after my diagnosis. I first noticed the pain when I was pregnant two years ago, but it didn't last long and my Hepatologist said it was from the baby's position. Ever since then I would get this dull ache in the evenings occasionally. Again I asked the doctor and he said it was just something I would need to deal with (no real explanation). Within the last month the pain has become more frequent and sometimes radiates to my back. Could this be from the PSC or maybe even gallbladder? I had an abdominal CT and bloodwork done and I'm awaiting the results. Thanks. Tina
Guest guest
Sounds like the classic " sludge blockage " symptoms (slight dehydration = thick bile = URQ pain until it passes). You might try taking note of when it happens. When I did that, I noted that it frequently happened after running, especially if I didn't hydrate before. In my case, if I quickly drank 2-4 glasses of water, it would go away (until the last time of course). The last time I ended up in the ER, then ERCP with balloon dilatation and a stent. As the bile ducts get narrower, it's harder for bile to pass through - especially if it's " sludgy " (that's a medical term now . It could also be something else, of course. I ended up with a cholecystectomy later that summer, and have been asymptomatic since (knock on wood). Pain radiating to the back is one of the classic symptoms of cholangitis, and should not be taken lightly. My hep recommended I get to the ER if that happens again. I would recommend you seek medical help soon - don't try to wait it out (like I did). Guest guest
Arne, My URQ pain does radiate to my back, just below my rib cage. I have no other symptoms though. I did get my lab results back and all my numbers (even LFTs) were normal, except my glucose was a little high. I was thinking with cholangitis that I would have a fever or chills or something -right? I did try drinking more water, but I didn't get much improvement yet. It's kind of strange - once in awhile the pain goes over to the left side below my rib cage in the front. I'm still awaiting my CT results. Thanks for your response. Anyone else feel free to chime in also. Thanks again Arne, I'll keep up with the increased water intake. Guest guest
CT scan and blood test both came back normal!! I am not going to complain I am happy for the normal test. I have had this pain now for about a month and have no idea what it is or what the cause could be. Anyone ever have this before, or any ideas please!! My Hep. Dr. is going to call me back on Wednesday and talk with me about it. He said he is not sure why I have pain and all test are good. Any question you all could give me to ask him? Thanks Tina.
