Colon issues? UC? Crohn's?

Hey all, I'm a little behind in reading the posts, but I noticed a lot

of talk about J-Pouches & Colon cancer issues. I have PSC, and I have

not had a colonoscopy (ever). My Doctor has said I should get one, and

I will when I get caught up on other medical bills (from all the tests

to figure out that I had PSC). In the mean time, I am wondering, is

there any way I would know if I had any of these colon issues? The

only symptom I have is bloody stools - no diarrhea or constipation or

anything... ocassional abdominal pain, but nothing major.

From http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/bloody_stool.htm:

" Blood in the stool may be a sign of rectal bleeding or

gastrointestinal bleeding. Certain conditions may lead to bloody

diarrhea. Any bleeding symptom needs prompt professional medical

advice. "

It may be something simple (like hemorrhoids), or something very

serious (like GI bleeding). Regardless of the absence of diarrhea,

this is NOT something to wait on. Please call a medical professional

soon.

You definitely need to have a colonoscopy done asap if you have bloody

stools. As to UC & Crohn's, the symptoms are all over the map, but bloody

stools can be a symptom. Bloody stools are also a symptom of colon cancer.

As always, the sooner you find cancer the better off you are. Colon cancer

caught early is very treatable. But also, if you have UC or Crohn's it

should be treated.

I know bills can pile up, (i have been there) but I must agree with

the others here you need to get a colonoscoyp if you are haveing

abdominal pain, and bloody stool. A Doctor once told me " blood in your

stool is always something that needs to be checked

out " .

Bloody stool is the ONLY symptom of UC that Suzanne had at diagnosis. Believe

all of us when we say this is not something you can wait on (sorry).

I have pan colitis. This means I get all the symptoms when I forget

the meds! If you do not have soft or loose stools then you may have

ulcerative proctitis (lack of whole colon involvement means stools get

formed by the time they reach the end!!)

Screening is a good idea, but the meds are dreadful. I am seriously

considerring never going through that again.
