Guest guest
Amy Xanax is an anti-anxiety medication. Now, many people who are depressed are also anxious and there is some carryover effect with any mood stabilizer. However, its purpose is more to calm than it is to remove depression or uplift. Yes, you would feel very irritable when xanax wears off for two reasons. First the anxiety it addresses returns. Second, it's highly addictive and cumulative in your body so you get withdrawal. Anyone on a significant dosage does have to taper. Now, I used the word addictive strictly as a medical fact of the med and not actually intending it in a bad way. I'm addicted in one way or another to all my meds and especially my oxygen. Try taking it away and I'll tie you up with my 50 foot oxygen hose. My point is simply that if something makes our lives better and is managed, the fact its addictive to our bodies in some way isn't necessarily an issue. Ok, now as to what xanax might do to improve or worsen depression. By relieving anxiety you might be less depressed by the anxiety. However, as it softens or lowers your mood, you might also be more sluggish and sleepy and slow (relaxed and sleepy not too far apart). So, feeling a lack of energy or desire to do things you can easily feel more depressed. Calmer but more depressed. I hope that makes sense. If you're suffering then from depression you need an anti-depressant. Then you may or may not still find yourself needing the xanax or another anti-anxiety medication. Some of the anti-depressants help with anxiety as well so much of it is trial and error. But while many people with depression also have anxiety and it may be caused by the depression, they are two different conditions. > > Thanks for the info, Bruce I will let you know what I come up with.
