Guest guest
I have been reading all posts but am behind in replying because I broke the rules and got sick again! One round of Levaquin down and tomorrow I start something called augmentin ( not sure if I spelled it right) I don't have congestion just sore throat that won't go away and tightness in the lungs and wheezing. So I decided to check in Gwynnie style!  Bruce: Thanks so much for all the insurance help. I found out that Social Security doesn't cover teachers BUT under COBRA laws they should have designated me disabled and then I would have qualiied for the extended COBRA coverage. Now it is too late, but Aetna ( because they also dropped the ball and didn't notify me in time) will extend my coverage for a year. After that I have no clue what I will do but at least I have a year to figure something out.  Geeta: When my daughter had her baby daughter two years ago9 she also has a 6 year old son) I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to help much, but there were so many things that I was able to do. I rocked the baby to sleep each day, made some meals, and played with my grandson a lot so his mommy could rest. It was a wonderful two months and I ended up being somuch more help than I thought I would be. Plus it was an experience of a lifetime to be there when the baby was born! What wonderful memories. Also- I am planning to call you as soon as my voice is back- The sore throat doesn't bother me as much as the no talking (lol). May: Just like you adapt to doing things differently in your everyday life, you adapt the grandma " duties. " I always have my kids place their babies in my arms while I am sitting. I can't pick up the toddlers, but I can sure cuddle them a ton . I have learned to do sitting activites with them. We watch cartoons, color, play games like Candy land, or they entertain me ( sing, dance, do goofy plays) while I sit admiringly and watch ( this by the way is their favorite activity!). As they get older it is even easier since you can go watch their sports games, take them to the show, etc. I am a very active grandma, I see my grandkids quite a bit , but I am not physically active with them,no chasing them at the park, swinging them in the air, etc. and it doesn't matter a bit. Beth: Since I am soon going to be in your " no Insurance boat " I would love to get tips and suggestions from you. I need oxygen full time now so I have that to consider as well as prescriptions. Thanks for the help.  R. (52) Sarcoid/PF 3/2006  Carlsbad, California Subject: Re: Poor and Pink Joyce To: Breathe-Support Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2008, 6:06 PM Pink Not allowed? oh my..... Guest guest
Not pleased about that getting sick bit but at least you're taking care of it well. At least on the insurance you got a year and during that time can research the other alternatives. You're very right to have spoken to Beth because she handled her situation so well. I'll try to toss you off-board some other ideas to at least check on while you have this year to figure things out. Guess I'm a bit jealous of all you grandparents and want to remind you of the most important thing. It's not the running and playing and up and around. It's just being there with them and for them. Just a hug or smile or kind words or talking to them. No, you can't chase them around for days, but many can't do that and the best part of being a grandparent is you get to enjoy and the leave the hard work to the parents. > > > > > > > > So close....... and then the rains and now the game suspended > > indefinitely as tomorrow is suppose to be worse.
