I was so dismayed by the review that I wrote my first letter to

the LA Times.

We (I wanted to, TJ

had to) watched the show. Honestly,

I didn’t like it very much and I had such high hopes for the show. The tx surgeon smoked and according to

his ex, jumped every skirt that walked by.

He was such a super surgeon that he transplanted every organ that came

his way (liver, heart, lungs – he does it all.) Not

to mention he actually said “get me a heart – any heart - I’ll

make it fit”, huh???? If the organ didn’t “start”

right away, he re-listed them ASAP, even against his boss’ order. And, I’m not even going to mention

his ability to see the dead donors or how he handled his daughter’s

condom problem.

He was a total ass to

the man waiting for a lung tx…..and….he

actually was going to cheat and by-pass UNOS and the man with the highest score,

by giving the lungs to his boss, who not only had lung trouble, but Hep C!! (No center in the US would have given lungs to a man with Hep C without the approval

of tx surgeons on staff & UNOS blessing.)

The OR had a glass window, that allowed not only his under age daughter to

watch surgery, but the mom of the patient!

They billed this show

as being as close to truthful as possible…..oh please.

Don’t even get

me started on the coordinator – not only did she walk in and the first

thing out of her mouth was basically we want your wife’s organs. But, she stupidly, knowingly, let the

donor’s husband know who the heart went to. And then…..they allowed him to

stand outside of the young girls room and “watch her sleeping”. Icky poo, poo.

I was so disappointed,

was hoping this would encourage more people to donate. But now….people who heard this

show was going to be “truthful” are probably saying no thanks to

donation. Who would blame them,

cheating UNOS, cheating on his wife, cheating patients, I don’t blame

them. Sorry to disagree with you,

but I didn’t like the show either.

What we need is a reality

show that has actual people, getting real transplants. Like the one that shows people in need,

getting new homes (it’s on Sundays.)

We hear their story, make a connection with them

and are thrilled for them when they get a new home. Those kinds of shows make people want to

help their fellow man.

Barb,

I kinda' feel like you. I so wanted to like this show. I was

disappointed. I know they have to make it enjoyable to watch, but it

was just too far fetched for anyone who knows anything about how

organ donation works.

Don't you hate when these type of shows make it look like any ol' doc

will do for a transplant. I love Grey's Anatomy and House. You

could say I'm addicted to the two, but they are the same way. On

Grey's once, the Chief did a liver transplant. He isn't a transplant

surgeon.

I was most upset with the way he wanted to cheat the system to get

his boss a transplant while the poor guy in the hospital was waiting

for one. And what about his comment that " Vancouver, could have done

the harvest if he had known it wasn't for the boss " ? Like he was

wasting his time on the old man in the hospital. He didn't seem to

want him to get better. He was flat out mean to the man.

What was with the strange husband wandering around in the ICU! The

ICU!! At Vanderbilt you had to be let through the doors by the

nurses to even get in there. You couldn't just wander in.

I just didn't like it at all. I'm going to give it one more try next

week in hopes it will be better. If not, that's it for me. I just

hope it doesn't cause people to be hesitant about being donors.

There is a show called " Women Docs " on the Lifetime Channel which is

superb. It follows women doctors in every specialty you can name and

it's extremely well done. I've seen transplant surgeons, OB/GYS,

oncologists, pulmonologists, neurologists, orthopedists, you name it!

There are usually 3 drs. per episode (show lasts 1 hour). I haven't

seen it in a while now, but the website says it comes on Sunday nights

at 11:00. It is extremely sensitive in the way issues are handled and

you get an understanding for the doctor's viewpoint as well as the

patient's. Now, if they could just put it on the big networks where

people would know about it!

I didn't see the show. It was the reviewer's critique of organs & organ transplants that bothered me. If she didn't like the show I could handle that. Apparently from what you've written, the show isn't worth watching. Too bad.

Started to watch the 2nd episode of Heartland last night but the

disconnect from reality was just too much. I agree with Barb - this

show does not portray transplantation and those engaged in it in a

positive light. Too much is sacrificed for cheap dramatic effects (in

this case TNT lost sight of what is really dramatic).
