Guest guest
This was just posted by Barb from Ken's Caringbridge site. " Today has been a really good day, full of small miracles, each more meaningful than the last. Ken was taken off the vent late last night, this morning they stopped the kidney dialysis. The doctors will keep an eye on his kidney numbers, but they expect them to be fine. They also replaced his feeding tube. One of the transplant surgeons thinks about 40% of Ken's new liver was damaged, but if everything goes well, it should repair itself. Of course they will be keeping a sharp eye on his new liver too. Ken had his first sip of juice and 2 swallows of broth. I was able to wash his face and neck (he didn't like that very much). He managed to brush his teeth (I think he actually only did 2 or 3 teeth, but hey it's a start!) all by himself. His blood pressure is good and they started the breathing exercises and that's going about as expected (it's painful.) They hope to move him out of the ICU tomorrow and back to his own room. They are going to keep him listed as a "Hold" oldStatus 1A for a few more days just to make sure everything is good. The doctor said once they come off the list, it's much harder to get back on, so they will keep him on it. Today has been a GREAT day and we are so very thankful. Guest guest
HOW GREAT THOU ARE! Barb: The news is great. I remember the story of someone here getting a transplant and the kidneys had a hard time " waking up " and a family member got his some tea and it started the " peeing " . I am so happy for Ken and I know we are all praying for him and the liver to get to work. Give him a thumbs up for me and all my love to you and the family. dee > " Today has been a really good day, full of small miracles, each more > meaningful than the last.
