Guest guest
Your son's " numbers " are pretty similar to my son's initial measurements, his were a little more severe. I can only really address your 3rd and 4th points. Flat headedness does seem to run in the family (on my husband's side--LOL!) Anyway, my son's head did still round out, I just think the tendency to flatness helped get him so flat in the first place, if you know what I mean. Also, I have not seen this published in an article anywhere, but my son had noticeably closed ear canals that opened after banding. It was his pediatrician's primary concern, from a medical standpoint, because he just could not see to his ear drum. He had two ear infections this winter, but that is certainly not statistical proof that it is related. However, squashed ear canals are certainly not normal. Good luck with your decision--these are just my anecdotal experiences, obviously. Stacey in Charlotte > > Hi, All > > I'm a new member here. Guest guest
Jonna After reading your reply I start to noticed that CT is for DOC band. And the product current suggested by our Dr. is START band. I'm starting to catch up with my homework and up to now once thing make me start considering DOC band is because of its light weight. I can't find the weight information for STARband but for DOC band everywhere mentioned it is 6oz. My Baby has a big head already. I think that is one of the reasons that he doesn't like tummy time at all. Which CT office did you visit? how is that going? Thanks and Regards Sunny > > > > Hi, All > > > > I'm a new member here. Guest guest
Hi Sunny, Have you seen the STARbands? We took my son for casting last week and the ortho had a STARband for us to see and handle so we knew what we'd be getting and honestly, I didn't think it was very heavy at all. I haven't held a DOC so I have nothing to compare too, but the STARband didn't seem heavy or I'd have had some questions. Just thought I'd share my opinion. Guest guest
I heard somewhere that the STARband is 4 oz. Unfortunately I can't recall where I heard that so I'm not sure how accurate the information is. Does anyone else happen to know? We're going in Thursday to get scanned for our STARband so I will ask the orthotist; if she doesn't know I'll ask her if we can weigh the sample band that is in their office. Guest guest
There is a chart comparing the star band and doc band in the files section here. I found it to be very helpful. I beleive the weight is in there as well. Haylee mom to andre doc band grad > > > > > > Hi, All > > > > > > I'm a new member here. My son (8 month old already) did a > > > START scan two weeks back. Guest guest
The person you need to be available is the ortho. Usually the dr is only seen at the beginning and end and possibly the middle. Also once you are an established patient you can usually get in quicker so that would cut down the 4 week wait. Howeve,r it probably won't cut down the 1 1/2 hour waiting room time. With your daughters measurements I would say she is mild/moderate plagio and moderate brachy. However, some drs don't consider it severe until it's just terribly deforming. The surgeons are usually the worst because they do get the really severe cases and the cranio cases. When a mild/moderate case comes inthe kid looks great comparitively even though the AAP would say band the child. Does that make sense? Some long term medical concerns include chronic ear infections, migraines, TMJ (jaw issues), eye sight issues (especially with facial assymmetry in the eye area), and some severe brachy has been tentatively linked to learning disabilities. The problem is they just don't have enough studies with conclusive evidence that it is ok or will correct on its own. That was my deciding factor. Also, I know if my children have crooked teeth i will get them braces. They started with crooked heads so I got them bands. It's a very similar thought process - or was for me. na, DOC Grad X2, Feb 04, Tort Resolved Kiersten, DOC Grad 4/4/06, Tort Resolved www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > > > Hi, All > > > > I'm a new member here.
