Guest guest
Hi , My son has been wearing his helmet for just about two weeks and we started to experience the same thing. We are going to the ortho for a measurement/adjustment on Wednesday. I'll pass along anything I learn from him. It rotated quite a bit and left a red mark on his cheek(under the "sideburn" too) that didn't disappear after his one-houroff in the evening when we gave him a bath. So we kept his helmet offovernight and his cheek was still red in the morning. I took him tothe ortho that day for an adjustment and he shaved a lot of foam awayon that sideburn. His cheek still gets a little red there now, but theredness disappears quickly (after just 5-10 minutes, I'd estimate.)Four adjustments later, his helmet still rotates a tiny bit, andsometimes pinches his eye which drives me crazy ... but they assure methat some rotation is unavoidable and it's definitely fitting better now.If it were me, I'd call the ortho to see what they say, and see if youcould have an adjustment made sooner than Thursday ... especially isthere's bruising.HTH,>> Hi,> Ive posted before about my sons helmet rotating, and also I spoke to > the ortho who said to slightly tighten the band...which I did.> I still seems to rotate slightly and yesterday he had a red mark, > almost like a graze near his eye, upper cheekbone area which lasted > all day. Guest guest
Hi , I responded to your message the other day, indicating that our Son was also experiencing the same redness on his cheek. I took him in to CHOA ish Rite (in Atlanta) and the Orthotist said that in our situation, the redness was being caused by too much rotation of the helmet. He inserted a pad at the back of the helmet to keep it from rotating so much, and also placed some padding on the "sideburn" to alleviate some of the pressure on the cheek that was being irritated by the rotation. It seems to fit much better now. The redness is now more of a bright pink, and now fades in about twenty minutes after we remove the helmet. On another note I spoke with the Orthostist about my son's tort and the need for Physical/Occupational Therapy. After a very quick, informal evaluation, he suggested that we get a script from our Ped for an PT/OT Evaluation for Tort. I obtained one from our Ped and called CHOA Central Business Office to schedule and appointment. The representative indicated that there is nothing available within the appropriate timeframe. I take it that this means they are booked solid into the foreseable future. But given my son's age, almost 9 months, we need PT/OT sooner rather than later. I am going to call the Ped tomorrow for another recommendation. Meanwhile, does anyone on the board from this area have any suggestions? Thanks, pagreys <pagreys@...> wrote: Hi ,We had the same thing happen when my son first got his STARband a fewweeks ago. Guest guest
Hi Natasha, Thanks so much for the reply. I will take your suggestion and call on Friday morning. Natasha Gubash <ngubash@...> wrote: Hi ,The physical therapists that I know of that are specialized in tort work in the same office in ish Rite that they do the Starband adjustments. I would call your ortho and ask them to help you schedule the appt. You might have to wait 2-3 weeks but you should get in. That entire group is great!NatashaAtlanta> >> > Hi,> > Ive posted before about my sons helmet rotating, and also I spoke to > > the ortho who said to slightly tighten the band...which I did.> > I still seems to rotate slightly and yesterday he had a red mark, > > almost like a graze near his eye, upper cheekbone area which lasted > > all day. Guest guest
, Thank you for the information. I will contact Ms. Kilpatrick and ask if she can provide the e-mail/ telephone number for a representative in Forsyth County. I would much rather have the PT sessions at home. <akturner00@...> wrote: As you are in Georgia, you can also contact Babies Can't Wait. They are part of the state and will come to your house to perform the PT at little or no charge. Mine filed with insurance, and then considered whatever insurance paid as the paid in full amount (I did not pay my percentage copay). Go to the department of public health for ga on the web and it is coordinated by county. I am in ding County, so my contact is Kriszty Kilpatrick at 706-802-5072 email khkilpatrickdhr (DOT) state.ga.us. You can send her a note and she can get you the rep for your county. They will work with you quickly.>> Hi ,> > I responded to your message the other day, indicating that our Son was also experiencing the same redness on his cheek.
