Guest guest
Joyce, I am not sure if all HMOs work the same but for mine once I had the first referral for the pulmo specialist I never needed one again. I only see my primary care physician twice a year but I see the pulmonary doctor almost 10 times a year. She usually schedules all my tests and I very seldom have to wait for approval. I don't know if that is because I am at a big university hospital or if all HMOs work the same. Take care- R. Guest guest
Pink Did you have a supplement/Medigap plan or a Medicare Advantage plan? Every Medicare Advantage plan has its on rules as far as referrals and facilities and doctors. Now, medicare supplement plans or medigap plans (both names are used) just follow along with Medicare so if a doctor or facility accepts Medicare then they do the medigap. Most of the time Medicare itself does not require a referral. At least you're finding all this out now so you can research and switch to the plan you want between November 15 and December 31. > > then in addition to health issues, > > the plan that I chose to supplement medicare is not accepted at U of P > > the select advantage gold plan has been discontinued, they were going to put me on select advantage silver--neither plan is U of P does not have a contract with either plan even though they are Blue Cross > > so I have to select a different plan > > now I have to decide between Personal Choice and HMO > > I never had an HMO > questions i need answered: > > if i am under care with a pulmonary doc, do i still need a referral from primary doc every time i go to pulmonary doc/transplant doc? > > will primary doc charge me for referrals? > i don't know how it works > > will primary doc mail referral or do i have to pick it up? > > will have to make some phone calls--ask primary doc about referral policy > I see him next Monday > > thanks for listening > > has anyone done fundraising for transplant? > > > Pink Joyce IPF 3/06 Pennsylvania >
