Guest guest
Prothrombin time is a measure of the blood's clotting ability. Since some clotting factors are produced by the liver, it's an important measure of how the organ is functioning. The higher the PT, the longer it takes your blood to clot. A related measure is INR, which I believe is derived from PT. The INR is used as one of the factors in your MELD score, which is the baseline measure used to determine where you fall on the transplant list. MELD is actually a statistical model that predicts mortality from liver disease within 90 days. MELD stands for Model for End Stage Liver Disease. > > Anyone know the significance of the Prothrombine Time? > > > Shaul > PSC US > > > > ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. >
