Guest guest
My dad has PSC and has recently been diagnosed as having cholangiocarcinoma. He has been told that if he can reduce the size of the tumor, he could be a candidate for a living liver transplant (I am a potential donor). We know that the Mayo clinic offers a course of radiation therapy alongside chemotherapy which has proved to be very effective. I was wondering if anybody out there has had this treatment and could tell me how long the treatment lasts, what the side effects are and if it was successful for them. Thanks and best wishes to you all... e
Guest guest
Hi all, while my 9 year old Tyler is doing fairly well taking 14 pills and 1 liquid a day to treat his symptoms of PSC and UC, the thing that still concerns me is the CA-19 tumor marker continues to be high and the doctors keep telling us not to worry that we just need to retest in 3months. It is in the low 100's. So, my question to any one out there that has the Cholangiocarcinoma or has family with it, what was the first sign of it? Was it Ca-19 elevation? Please let me know as we may keep pushing the retests monthly as it has been high now for 6 months and they keep saying it is from inflammation from the UC but the UC is under control. We remain worried. Please let us know anything good or bas so we can educate ourselves and move forward if need be. , , Tyler (9) and McKenna (4) Ostos " justine_hen " " justine_hen " Sent by: 07/10/2007 11:03 AM Please respond to To cc Subject PSC/Cholangiocarcinoma My dad has PSC and has recently been diagnosed as having cholangiocarcinoma. Guest guest
e, I understand your concern, I was very concerned for a while when my CA19-9 was elevated. My CA19-9 came up to about 150 but went right down after an ERCP and is now in the 30s. Blockage of the bileducts can cause the CA19-9 marker to be elevated. If you do some research on the internet you will also find out that CA19-9 is not a very good inducator of cholangiocarcinoma. It sometimes shows CCA when it is not there, it sometimes does not indicate CCA when it is there.
