Dear All;

Thank you all for your condolences, prayers, thought and best wishes

to Judy and her family on the loss of her father. Here's the text of

the obituary for Seymour printed today in the Journal and Courier,

Lafayette, IN:

Seymour Cherniack, 86

July 13, 2007

Seymour Cherniack, 86, of Lafayette, died at 8:47 a.m. Wednesday,

July 11, 2007, at St. Medical Center.

Born Dec. 12, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Julius and

Cherniack, he received his doctorate in optometry from Columbia

University in 1949. He lived in Lafayette the past 14 years, coming

from New York.

He married Shirley Goluboff on June 16, 1946, in Glen Cove, N.Y., and

she survives.

Mr. Cherniack was in the Army 13th Air Corps from 1943 to 1945

serving in the South Pacific, reaching the rank of first lieutenant.

He was an optometrist, and owned his own practice in Batavia, N.Y.

for 35 years. He was a founding member of Temple Emanuel in Batavia.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Judy (husband:

Dave) of West Lafayette, Wei (husband: ) of Lafayette,

Colo. and Helen Cherniack (husband: Mike Shafer) of Rochester, N.Y.;

and two sons, Mark Cherniack (wife: Suzi Conklin) of Mosier, Ore. and

Cherniack (wife: Robin) of , Wyo.

There will be private family services.

Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, , Cherniack

and Ann Wei. Preceded in death by a sister, Adele Beder and a

brother, Jerome Cherniack. He always believed that the world could be

a better place: " let justice flow like a river and righteousness like

Seymour had a very special bond with his grandson, . He taught

a great deal, including how to love and respect all forms of

life, and how to smile and laugh, and enjoy each day we are given on

this earth. had the honor of caring for his grandpa during his

last days and hours, and this will stand him in good stead as he

starts his career in medicine.

That was a beautiful obituary of your father-in-law. He sounds like a

wonderful man. It is also very special that the family decided to have

donations made to PSC Partners. You and your family have my heartfelt
