Guest guest
Just for clarification for pre-ops. (This was a question I had pre-op anyway............) You won't have an NG tube pre or postop. You will be intubated. I remember laying on a cold OR table, they put a b/p cuff and pulse ox. on (sm. clip on your finger-measures oxygen saturation) Gave me a warm blanket and told me to take deep breaths through a mask they put over my face. My hubby's a CRNA student(nurse anesthetist) and said that it was just 100% oxygen. Simultaneously they injected some Versed,Fentanyl,propofol...and something else(thank you Versed) and I was off to sleep. I woke up probably earlier than most. I recall being extubated(took the tube out of my throat) and suctioned. It wasn't horrible. I just needed to be suctioned more(there was excess saliva still in my throat) The CRNA was getting ready to help move me to the stretcher and I said " suction " ,they kept talking. I said " suction " ,they kept talking. Louder I said " Yankuer " (which is the device they use to do it) She said " Did she just say what I think she said? " And they suctioned me. We all laughed.(Keep in mind I was probably barely whispering post extubation). The medics I work w/ laugh and say " That sounds like you,not only telling 'em what to do,but how to do it " . It was either that or cough a " woogie " on them!LOL! They then asked me to scoot to the stretcher.I said " sure " . My head and feet went over...nothing else.We all laughed again, some big guy said I got her and lifted me over(strong man!) I had a very pleasant OR experience! Also Pam Greer-I wanted to thank you for your story. I understand what you mean about giving your story a title. You went through a heck of alot and people really need your input! I thought of you a few days ago ...I took a small bite of a pickle and thought " this is the perfect food " If it hadn't been for your sharing of your experience others may repeat your situation!
