That's a really absurd statement. I don't know any physician, and I know a hundreds, who isn't much busier than he or she would like to be. No one needs to artificially drum up business. Standards change because better scientific information becomes available. Ron

Guest guest
I would not say the statement is absurd. Individually, Dr's are small potatoes. However, in the realm of the industry the statement may be more credible. There are people that look at health care in the way it impacts investors and how numbers look on balance sheets. It is a big industry. Where I live it is second to Oil and Gas. If I were an Insurance r I would be very interested in identifying early my risk. People who are at risk for diabetes will only become higher risks as they age. They need to be identified early... In order to identify these people you have to perform research and gather data to determine where you place the measuring stick. I see Doctors as technicians and they are generally going to agree with the standards that are set. To do otherwise would put them at risk too. Pharmaceutical industry benefits when standards are lowered also because it brings in more people that will now qualify for medication. On the downside of all this people may be exposed unescessarily to the stress and anxiety of false diagnoses and higher insurance costs. On the upside you might identify someone that will benefit from early detection. Just my take, Vance Vance > > > > > I guess they are lowering the standards for a lot of things now > days, the Dr's will make more money that way too. > > That's a really absurd statement. " Most of what is in science is based on opinion. This is one reason why it's always changing. In order for everything in science to be a fact the scientists would have to interview every person with the disease or symptoms that they are studying but that is not possible. So they base what they find on a sample of maybe 100 people. Not everyone can do well with the medical experts consider normal now even for someone who is Diabetic. My mom is a perfect example of this. She is doing her best to watch portion sizes, exercise, and yes she takes her insulin (she can't handle any of the meds that are used in the oral protocol for Type 2 Diabetes). Even with all this she can't handle the range that is recommended. I'm going to have to agree with fuzzie about drs (most-being my word) making money off of the people by helping the pharmaceutical industry boost their sales by putting most people on medicine for something that they don't have. And this happens by trying to group all people the same as far as what's normal not only for readings but also for symptoms for Diabetes and even other illnesses. This is why Eunice as the owner of our list requests and reminds that each person on this list talk to their dr about what is normal for them. If a person has a dr they are comfortable with they will work together as a team to find out what works best for them. Not just basing it on what others want to have etched in stone as it were. It rests in fact and there are too many people who prefer to live in their own world. Too many discussions here are by the 'heart' and not the 'head'. That, in and of itself, isn't bad... but when you try to present factual information you are accused of trivalizing their feelings, twisting their words or worse.. (some off of the list who are truely hateful). Simply because you try to provide a logical or factual opinion that differs from theirs.
