Guest guest
Good gods, I'm 39! I went to the optician today on a whim really, and after a brief chat about my health (hahahhahahahahahaha) she told me that my long sight is magnificent . I need reading glasses, but only just, nothing much, but I've ordered some pretty funky frames And as she saw that I have been on steroids for years she decided to check me out for cataracts. Fortunately they are not currently affecting my eyesight, but I have to have yearly eye tests now. That's a long way from having been told by an optician about ten years ago to go away and stop wasting his time But, bloody hell, all this just one more thing to add to the list is getting right on my nerves! Aaaaaaanyway - if you've been on steroids for anylength of time did you know you should keep an eye out for cataracts? Love Ze xx
Guest guest
Good Morning Zena: When I was diagnosed in 2002, I went online to check the side effects of prednisone and PF, and both said possibility of cataracts. So you are right, just one more thing. I love you today. Guest guest
Prednisone is fun isn't it Ze??? In addition to cataracts, steroids can can cause an increased risk of glaucoma. When I had been on the stuff for several months my eye pressures were mildly elevated. It's resolved now that I've been off steroids for so long but it's another thing for us all to be aware of. Guest guest
Zena Yes, anyone on steroids should be getting regular eye exams for both cataracts and glaucoma. Reality is though at most of our ages, we should be getting those exams anyway. > > > Good gods, I'm 39! > > I went to the optician today on a whim really, and after a brief chat > about my health (hahahhahahahahahaha) she told me that my long sight is > magnificent [] . > > I need reading glasses, but only just, nothing much, but I've ordered > some pretty funky frames [] > > And as she saw that I have been on steroids for years she decided to > check me out for cataracts. Guest guest
39 Bruce! THIRTY NINE!!!!!! I'm only just getting to need glasses and that's for reading and that's the mildest reading glasses and it's for one eye only. Mind you, they can't say whether it's pred-borne or whether I'd have had them anyway. If I didn't know that pred was doing me some good, and it is, that has been proved to be undeniable in my case, I wouldn't go near the damn things. > >> >> > Good gods, I'm 39!> >> > I went to the optician today on a whim really, and after a brief chat> > about my health (hahahhahahahahahaha) she told me that my long sight> is> > magnificent [] .> >> > I need reading glasses, but only just, nothing much, but I've ordered> > some pretty funky frames []> >> > And as she saw that I have been on steroids for years she decided to> > check me out for cataracts. Guest guest
Z I didn't say you were ancient like me. Just that annual eye exams make sense and vision generally starts changing at around 40. Now having used prednisone you definitely need regular checks. I hate the glaucoma check too, but been having it regularly all my life. For any here who don't wear glasses, you still should have glaucoma exams periodically. Most GP's don't do them. But you don't have to have bad vision to develop glaucoma. > > > > > > > > > Good gods, I'm 39! > > > > > > I went to the optician today on a whim really, and after a brief > chat > > > about my health (hahahhahahahahahaha) she told me that my long sight > > is > > > magnificent [] . > > > > > > I need reading glasses, but only just, nothing much, but I've > ordered > > > some pretty funky frames [] > > > > > > And as she saw that I have been on steroids for years she decided to > > > check me out for cataracts. Guest guest
Bob, I'm happy for you that the NAC has helped with the cough!!! Yes, the cataract is annoying in what used to be my "good" eye. I've worn glasses for 62...yes 62 years! I've been farsighted and had astigmatism in both eyes since I was three and had crossed eyes to boot!!! The eye doctor is just staying the course with prescription adjustments every 6 months and he said he'll wait to see when and if I need surgery. So far, the changes to prescription have been working OK. That and much more light when reading or doing hand-work like knitting or crocheting or needlepoint. When these become difficult I'll ask for the surgery. Since even my Pulmonologist doesn't know what may happen next, I don't dwell on the negative possibilities very much. I have two gorgeous grand daughters to play with ( pictures in my album) and a husband and kids who support me always. I really try to stay positive (I admit that it's not always doable). Those "down" days show up and I do my best to deal. When I have trouble I call the psychologist and we deal together. I try not to dump on family too much..they already worry so much that that worries me! For the past few days I've been having cold like symptoms that have made me cough ( dry cough) and my chest muscles are sore. I'm using warm compresses or the heating pad and that seems to help. Tylenol has helped with the muscle pain too. If this doesn't calm down it's right to the doc. on Monday. I have no fever and there is no yucky signs of infection. I let everyone else do yesterday's Thanksgiving dinner. I set the table , made stuffing and baked a cake several days ahead. Mike made the turkey, my son Sam the aspiring chef made the sweet potato casserole, my d-i-l Ilana made pumpkin and apple pies,my daughter made veggie appetizers, and my son Adam and s-i-law Kurt cleaned up. The babies just played with me!!!! It was a very wonderful but tiring day but I had a great time. Dare I ask if you are an Eagles or Steelers fan? Love Ze xx No virus found in this incoming message.
