Guest guest
My doctor said she wanted me to go to rehab classes but because of the usual problem of the lack of money I can't so I was wondering what sort of exercises they do there that I could do at home . I have a treadmill . W. East Texas Silicosis 4/
Guest guest
Could you go to rehab perhaps for three sessions or so? Perhaps then they could show you what to do and how safely to do it at home. Be honest and tell them your purpose. I did that and since I've used the treadmill at home and done breathing exercises. The key is finding what you can do safely and making sure you're well oxygenated while doing it. Then the key becomes having the discipline to maintain your program of exercise at home. My program today is relatively simple. I walk on a treadmill. Because of balance my maximum is 2.5 mph. I do this approximately 4 times per week. I do breathing exercises as well, using an incentive spirometer and another breathing exercise gadget. You need some form of stretching and limbering before the treadmill. Now, many also do some light weights with their hands and legs. Because of other conditions, I do not do those. > > My doctor said she wanted me to go to rehab classes but because of > the usual problem of the lack of money I can't so I was wondering what > sort of exercises they do there that I could do at home . Guest guest
... Here's what I do... ANY amount of treadmill I can tolerate ( I have an oximeter) while using O2. I'm like Bruce, (I start about 1.9) and work up to 2.5 usually. Maybe only for 10 minutes! Start wherever it feels comfortable...I'm tall and have long legs so a slower beginning speed is too slow. ANY stretching we can tolerate helps us just in general. There is no "set pattern" to be locked into, I don't think, like; "Am I doing this right?" Your body and lungs will be a good guide. We're all different levels of tolerance. I also have some long stretch bands left over from rehab...I went into a store and looked on the box for "how to use them". That was before rehab. Keep it simple and easy. MamaSher, age 70. IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Re: Rehab class exercises Could you go to rehab perhaps for three sessions or so? Guest guest
10--20 minutes on the treadmill at least twice a week ( I say this because the rehab I go to is only open twice a week) if you have free weights, there are some are arm exercises you can do with them -- you can also use cans with the food still in them if you don't have the free weights if you have a bicycle, ride it around the block today next week, you might want to ride it around the block two times, etc Pink Joyce IPF 3/06 Pennsylvania Subject: Rehab class exercisesTo: Breathe-Support Date: Saturday, November 29, 2008, 11:02 AM My doctor said she wanted me to go to rehab classes but because ofthe usual problem of the lack of money I can't so I was wondering whatsort of exercises they do there that I could do at home . Guest guest
Thanks , I'm trying to do my treadmill 4-5 times a week and I've got 2 2Lb and 2 5Lb weights that I try to do a few exercises with . I have a bike but I don't have portable oxygen so I know I can't do that . My doctor told me to lose weight but I just keep adding instead of subtracting . I'm on prednisone and advair which I know are not helping but it gets discouraging when I don't make any progress. > > > Subject: Rehab class exercises > To: Breathe-Support > Date: Saturday, November 29, 2008, 11:02 AM > > > > > > > My doctor said she wanted me to go to rehab classes but because of > the usual problem of the lack of money I can't so I was wondering what > sort of exercises they do there that I could do at home .
