Guest guest
Our daughter was bilaterally implanted last August when she had just turned one year old. The surgery lasted about 6 hours ( I think - I can't believe I can't remember all the specific details!!) She was activated 3 weeks later. She spent the night in the hospital - it was pretty rough b/c she would not keep the pain medication down - she hated drinking medicine, so she would spit it out. Her head was swollen - the worst was the second day after surgery. Try to have your child sleep upright if you can so reduce the swelling. By the third day after surgery, she was back to herself but still a little swollen. She was not walking as of the surgery date, but you could tell she was more wobbly for a couple of days. Feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions - you could also ask the folks on the CICirle yahoo group for more responses. It's well worth the surgery & recovery period to have the CI for your child.
