Guest guest
Ok Guys, sorry for so many posts lately, but I really need help on this one. I have been scouring the pecanbread and BTVC websites, and did find that Elaine said the SCD would not starve Clostridia, you have to use Flagyl or Vancomycin, this is a much needed piece of information for me. Our other problem is Klebsiella, I couldn't find anything on SCD and klebsiella. Could someone help me here? I need to find out if the diet starves Klebsiella bacteria. I need to know this info before seeing the DAN dr in 2 weeks. I need to " know " what I am talking about when I explain the SCD benefits to her. I also would like to know if anyone has had any experience with Clostridia or Klebsiella (especially Klebsiella). Thanks so much! Guest guest
I've read that the Saccharomyces Boulardii is OK and works against clostridia, does it work for Klebsiella too? Or how about just GSE? Hope you get help, and never apologise fora sking for help for your kids! Chris.

Guest guest
" Or how about just GSE? " Be careful with GSE. One of the doctors who spoke at DAN! said that GSE kills everything - good and bad. If you know that it is Klebsiella, I am assuming that you had a stool test done. What does the lab report say that the Klebsiella can be killed by? It should have had a list of drugs and a list of natural agents that would kill the Klebsiella. Jody mom to -6 and -8 SCD 29 months

Guest guest
, Which antibiotics were used for Klebsiella? Any problems? Did it work? Did you see improvement? Thanks, Tammy
Guest guest
Yes, my daughter had a 4+ rating of Klebsiella (Nov 2003)! . our Dan doctor gave us prescrption antibiotics to squash the klebsiella, which gives rise to problems with yeast. klebsiella feeds on starches. This was one of the main reasons why we decided to start SCD. claudia > Ok Guys, sorry for so many posts lately, but I really need help on this > one. Guest guest
Thanks Everyone, including Shaw has said to use the Saccharomyces Boulardii, the strange thing is that was the probiotic we had been using for ten months prior to being tested, and his levels were through the roof, is it possible that they were even higher at one time or the SB just doesn't work for us (we were using florastor, and I stopped because it contained lactose) Tammy

Guest guest
Hi, I was interested in this recent discussion on Klebsiella and need some advice. Several months ago, before starting my 3 1/2 yo son on the SCD, a stool sample test of his indicated the presence of Klebsiella pneumoniae at a 4+ level. The natural medicine doctor who ordered the test did not indicate this was something for us to worry about at the time, mainly because there were other " more pressing " findings that we needed to take care of. However, for those of you who have had to deal with Klebsiella, I am wondering, is this something that we should not ignore? And if so, should I try to get an antibiotic prescribed for him? Thanks so much for your help, Allyson Mom of Zachary, Crohns, SCD 7 weeks > Hi Tammy, > > > Ok Guys, sorry for so many posts lately, but I really need help on > this > > one. Guest guest
Hi, Allyson - We just did 3 weeks of Diflucan plus Flagyl for Klebsiella, Clostridia and yeast (very bad numbers and stools!). He is better, but not perfect. Now I'm rotating natural antifungals, including Uva Ursi (which his previous Pseudomonas was sensitive to) and Kaprycidin-A (which the Klebsiella was sensitive to), awaiting repeat OAT and CSA testing to see where we are going next. The problem with the AGNB's (aerobic gram negative bacilli, like Pseudomonas or Klebsiella) is that there is no broad spectrum enough antibiotic in the USA to eradicate them, so if you treat you may suppress one, but another may take its place. Sophie Rosseneu did a nice lecture about this at the LA DAN conference - you can view it for free on the Autism Research institute's website (look under DAN webcast). Anyway, the belief is that once the gut heals, there is less likelihood for bacteria (and yeast) to flourish. Would it be accurate to say that the SCD is more effective in minimizing yeast overgrowth than in treating bacterial overgrowth? Whether to treat or not depends on his symptoms - behavior, pain, bloating, appetite, stools. If he looked good many months after the test and you haven't treated, I would let it go. If you are having trouble with the above symptoms, you may want to reculture at this point - if you get a positive culture, you will hopefully also get sensitivities to both prescription and natural antibacterials. FWIW, Kathy Mom of , severe autistic enterocolitis with Crohn's features, working towards SCD BTW Sheila - he absolutely loves the ground beef and avocado meatballs! Guest guest
Kathy, thanks so much for your helpful info. My son does have many of those symptoms, which are also of course associated with Crohns so I don't know if it is due to that or to the Klebsiella. He is currently on Prednisone for his Crohns. Do you happen to know if that would affect the results of the test if we decide to have him recultured? It all seems like such a guessing game, doesn't it?!? Thanks!
