Guest guest
Kathy, thanks so much for your helpful info. My son does have many of those symptoms, which are also of course associated with Crohns so I don't know if it is due to that or to the Klebsiella. He is currently on Prednisone for his Crohns. Do you happen to know if that would affect the results of the test if we decide to have him recultured? It all seems like such a guessing game, doesn't it?!? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi, Allyson - No, the Prednisone shouldn't affect the stool culture results. With my son, when he flares, it seems to be a mixture of gut inflammation, dysbiosis, and need for dietary restriction. I never can figure out " which came first " , and we end up treating all 3 (eventually!). Are you doing both Pentasa and Prednisone? That was the next step for , but we seem to be getting a little better right now, so are holding off on changes. Hope this is not too OT, but we did start him on transdermal low dose Naltrexone 2 1/2 weeks ago, and had formed stools the first day after the full dose. I was told that I had to make a choice between that and Prednisone (they cancel out each other, so you can't do them simultaneously). If his lipase is still elevated next week, we'll go to Prednisone. Maybe that's a thought for your son after he weans off the Prednisone? Take care, Kathy (, 6 yo, autistic enterocolitis/Crohn's?, moving toward SCD) Re: Klebsiella Please Help > Kathy, thanks so much for your helpful info. Guest guest
Allyson, My son tested for Klebsiella Oxytoca 3+, his Dan wanted to use augmentin, but I refused. The only other natural that it was sensitive to was caprylic acid, and some say that is hard on the intestines if you have colitis. I am awaiting stool sample analysis, and will let you know if there is any change from diet alone ( I have also been using a tiny amount of mct oil) Our DAN appt is July 20. My husband and I are planning to attend the mini DAN this weekend in North Carolina, I know they will be speaking about gfcf and SCD. I will let you all know what I learn. We also have high clostridia (one of the reasons that I refused the augmentin) I am hoping to go ahead with flagyl and nystatin at the end of the month. Guest guest
I just wanted to comment that Augmentin is a very strong Antibotic. I had it for the first time as an adult. It was supposed to help my one and only ear infection. Instead, I ended up with tinnitus for the rest of my life. You are smart to be careful with antibotics. Guest guest
Kathy, thanks so much for your advice and I will look into that... I always dread it when we have to put him on prednisone. We tried Pentasa along with it but he couldn't tolerate it (vomiting, etc). I'm glad to have some other options to look into. I appreciate your help. Guest guest
Hi Emma, > out of interest and could someone please correct me if im wrong > > certain things like this clostridia are hard to eradicate if gse kills good and bad bugs, wudnt it be able to erase these types of bugs too? Clostridium is a spore former. This means that it can " hibernate " in spores until conditions are more favourable. Depending on the levels in the body and a host of other factors GSE may help lower the numbers or not. Also, GSE doesn't kill everything. It will kill a lot though, so using some form of probiotic or yogurt etc.(not at the same time as the GSE - a few hrs apart) will help prevent hardier microbes from overgrowing.
