My daughter is in a DOCband and we are having pressure point issues

(red bump that just won't go away). She has been in the band for

almost 4 weeks now. We have had 2 adjustments and they shaved the

area twice and we are using moleskin. We go in this Friday for

another adjustment.

What is moleskin? For the DOC band, nothing should be placed in between the band and the head. Also, lotions should not be used on the head. The only thing to clean the band is 70% or 91% alcohol. Carol kson from Cranial Technologies wrote the following on the discussion board in response to some incorrect postings about rashes, "I'd like to offer information in response to some of your questions regarding rashes. It’s not uncommon for children in DOC Bands to get a heat rash. This may happen when a child first gets the band and isn't kept cool enough. We also see this at the start of Spring when everyone goes to the park and forgets how hot your little one can get. The important thing is to work closely with your CranialTech clinician to take care of your infant's skin and also for ways to prevent heat rashes - dressing the baby in cooler outfits, fans in rooms, frequent towel-drying, etc. For those in DOC Band

treatment: we do not ever place layers between the band and the infant's head. In treating over 35,000 babies, we have not had any true allergic reactions to the band. We have had cases of sensitive skin and we have been able to take care of those without adding anything between the skin and the band liner. I want to emphasize, I am only speaking for our DOC Band and Cranial Technologies. Different products do have different protocols. CranialTech clinicians go through extensive training in all aspects of DOC Band wear and care and will happily work to find solutions for you. My daughter goes to Cranial Tech, and they put moleskin on her sideburns in her helmet... her skin had abrasions there (she has very fair, sensitive skin). It's thin.. it's not any kind of padding... it's like a sticker that has soft material on one side (like brushed cotton material). My daughter's abrasions healed up and with the second helmet, we have not needed the moleskin at all.

I have heard of several other parents who have had Cranial Tech locations put moleskin on the helmet's sideburns. They do not advocate anything else being placed on the inside of the helmet.

Ok, that makes sense. I guess there must be exceptions to the not putting anything between the band and the head. Sorry, my mistake. I haven't been on the board in awhile but I am a very inactive mod and

mom of 2 doc grads. My oldest wore 2 DOC bands and did have some ehat

rash with the first. We live in SC and she got hers the end of Oct

which can still be warm in SC. It was just a little red bumpy rash in

t he sideburn area. We kept the band claen with 91% alcohol once a

day, scrubbing with am old washrag and letting it dry thoroughly. We

also used just a tiny bit of 1% hydrocortizone cream after her bath in

her 1 hour off period. This allowed it to completely dry before

putting the band back on. It cleared up in a few days.

mom to ... na DOC Grad X2 Feb 04 and Kiersten DOC Grad April 06
