You are considering surgery and you weigh less than 200??? You are at goal

for a lot of people!! I can understand with your history of obesity that you

would be scared you will get a lot bigger but being that thin...yes I said

thin...I can't imagine any doctor would do it! (unless you are 4 foot 5 in.

tall...lol)

I have decided to respond to this one since raventmb is my sister - the one

that weights under 200. ( I also am on the path to the WLS at 218 ) Yes it is

true that alot of people would kill to be at this weight, I truly agree with

that. It does not matter if you weight 70-300 pounds over weight, you are

still overweight. You still have the ridicule, looks, comments, weight

related illnesses and the feeling inside oneself.

Raventmb and myself lost our father a few years back due to a pulmonary

embolism (sp?) after an open RNY. unfortunately my father had reached close

to 450 pounds, had sleep apnea, high blood pressure, severe back problems,

corporeal tunnel, and lived with oxygen 24 hours a day! after 7 years of

being starved by doctors, put on redux, phen-phen, pondamin and speed, and

being told his ONLY problem was his weight, he had lost his company, his

house, and his ability to enjoy life.

he was approved for WLS after a hard battle with the insurance company. He

passed away about 2 weeks later from a blood clot lodging in his heart. AND

CARDIOMYOPATHY !!!! He had the biggest enlarged heart the medical examiner

had ever seen! My fathers mother had also passed away from this only a few

years previous without knowing. Cardiomyopathy is hereditary, and a very

scary reality for my sister and I. Obesity, Cardiomyopathy, and diabetes is

almost a given in our future if the weight is not addressed NOW! So it's not

all fun and games, and " diet, you only have 70-100 pounds to lose. " It is a

battle for our lives as it is with every individual with a weight problem.

Except ours is not a possibility it is a fact.

OK I'll get off the soap box now!

Why would 200 be goal for anyone shorter than 6 feet tall? That makes

no sense at all.

What a catty reply. Sheesh.

200 lbs. is grossly overweight for someone 5'4 " tall. That's not

healthy.

I hear you on that! Which is why I don't want to weigh 165-200 when I

quit losing weight after this surgery. My " insurance industry " weight

at 5'4 " is 114-132 pounds. Not 165, not 200. To be *healthy* I need to

weigh between 114-132.

At 165, I'm still fat, I still had diabetes at that weight, I still got

the same " fat " treatment as I do now, the only difference is my knees

didn't hurt like they do now, but I hated being fat and got even fatter

being depressed about it.

I just don't think 200 is big. When I am at 180 I look GREAT and wear a size

14. (last time I was there I was 18..now I am 31 and a size 28) I personally

just wouldn't consider surgery at that weight..(I am 5'6 by the way). Just

my opinion.

You can probably carry a little more weight at your height and maybe you

are big boned.

But I'm small-boned and short and at 200, I look like a dumptruck.
