Hi Folks,

I, too have noticed this, but didn't know one could fix it. At the risk

of outing myself as a " technidiot, " would you explain to me how to trim my

posts? The computer and I are on shaky terms at best

( however, in my defense, I can rebuild your carburetor, cuss in Latin, and

make paper out of dryer lint ;) I will happily comply!

P.S. I'll be glad to send you the recipe for drier lint paper in return

for the info.!

Thanks, and Warm Regards! Sunspot

I know what you mean. When I respond I try to just keep the parts that will make

some sense of my answer or comment. I clear out all the extras.

I can't figure out how to highlight an area and delete when I am on my iPad. I

have tried, but I can't do it. It is on my list of things to ask the genius bar

people about next time I visti the Apple store. I don't have time to sit down at

my desktop everytime I want to post and my son likes to use the desktop for his

computer games. I am sorry this is hard for you.

It's no biggie if one or two messages are long, it's just when all of them are

five miles long.

I don't know how to do anything on an ipod? pad? I don't even own one.

But on a desktop, when you reply, you should see all of the previous messages

copied underneath what you are typing. If you move the cursor to what you want

to cut out, you can hold down " shift " and then move the arrows. You will see

stuff being highlighted. Then you hit " delete " and the highlighted stuff

disappears. This should work if you are posting on the site or from email.

Thanks a million!

In general, you trim text you don't want by selecting the

unwanted text then hitting the delete key.

You didn't mention what you're using to respond to posts, so

giving instructions is hard. Are you responding via the group

web page at yahoogroups? Or are you subscribed via e-mail and

replying via e-mail? If so, which e-mail client are you using?

Some e-mail clients make it hard to edit the quoted text from

the message you're replying to but most of them are capable of

doing it once you figure out how.

I also suggest that you set your " Preferences " in your device or mail engine or

at Yahoo! Groups to show you the most recent message first, at the top of the

screen (so that the earlier comments/responses appear below it, in descending

order of their date and time.

Then if there is a foot-long trail of earlier comments, you don't have to scroll

through them because the most recent message is first in line/at the top of the

page.

I like to keep the message I'm responding to in my reply so the context of my

response is clearer, but I'll be more aware of deleting the earlier messages

from my posts.

Recipe for drier lint paper!

Thanks to all who responded to my request for help trimming my post

responses - sorry I've been slow in responding with the promised recipe, I

monkeyed up my computer trying to add software. DH helped me out!

Tools;

Several empty picture frames, (no glass) - to scoop and dry your paper

pulp onto. (Professionals refer to these as " deckles " )

A roll of plastic screen - staple onto old picture frames

2 large plastic dish-pan, or my fav, the small black cement mixing tub from

any of the home repair stores - pretty cheap, $10-$12, really sturdy, good

size

Old blender

Measuring cup

Drier Lint - I make two piles, lights and darks, and have even been known

to skulk around laundromats to beg for lint! (I used to ask my neighbors to

save it, but I think it freaked them out a little) using dark lint for

darker paper, light for lighter.

I like to add a little starch - liquid starch works fine, the blue color

dissapears, but, so will a little bit of flour, either wheat, potato, or

rice, but it isn't really necessary, it just gives a slightly smoother

surface.

The point of the process is to suspend fine fiber particles in a liquid

solution. The liquid will, upon scooping up with the screen covered pict.

frame, drain away, leaving a sheet ( the thickness of which will depend on

your purposes and choices) of artisinal paper! This is the most forgiving

and flexible of crafts, exact measurements are just* not* that important,

and experimentation will bring a lot of pleasure!

Soak a nice big fluffy 4 or 5 handfuls of lint, ( just barely cover with

water)30 minutes to over night.

Place wet lint, into blender, 1 or 2 cups at a time, and fill the blender

with water.

Pulse until lint particles are fine, and well suspended in water.

Place in a large pot or tub until you get it all blended.

Place old pict. frame in empty tub, fill tub with water, to about five

inches over the frame.

Fun Part! Decide what you want your paper to look like! This is where you

would add a tablespoon of liquid starch, for a smoother paper, or, if

making really thick paper, a little mint or wintergreen extract to

discourage mold.

Add a little dye or paint to your pulp, and after stirring the pulp in

your holding pot, (the mixt. will be really, really thin) and dip out a

blender container-full and gently pour into the water filled container

holding the pict. frame. Swirl the pict. frame around to evenly distribute

the thin pulp soup onto the screen, and lift out of the water. Sprinkle

with flower seeds or petals, threads from the sewingroom floor, feathers,

glitter, let your heart be joyful andhave a really good time!

There is no right or wrong with this process - if you don't like the way

one batch came out, soak it, blend it, and pour it again!

Stack frames onto a pad of newspaper or towels, and put in a warm dry

place to dry. I actually set mine in a box in the back of my car, where the

heat from the sun dries it out pretty quickly!

Encouraging our inner child to explore and create is such an inportant

part of healing. Sometimes I find myself crying and talking to myself as I

work,

thus, I try to work alone with my wounded self before sharing my new skills

outside of the studio.

How many of us were made to feel too self-conscious to create with joy

and abandon, or had partial works hijacked and diminished through premature

or ingenuine praise?

Oddly, and in a round-about way, this fits into the message trimming

issue. I find that I became a " technidiot " as a means of avoiding

Nada-wrath and invasive snooping. I'm really challenging myself to resolve

the whole techno challenge, and to claim my right to be techno competent.

My thanks to for the challenge, and to all who responded with

requests! I'd be more than happy to answere any questions about the paper

process!

My Very Best To All! Sunspot
