Now, honestly, I read the book once when I was younger, but I don't remember it

at all, so I don't know if the creatures in the book were borderline, but wow!

The creatures in the movie are. At least this one named Judith.

DH had the movie on this evening, and I was kind of half-watching it. The girls

were both asleep, thank goodness! It got to this one scene where the main

character, Max, is mimicking Judith because she's yelling at him, and she

screams, " You know what? You can't do that back to me. If we're upset, your job

is not to get upset back at us. Our job is to be upset. If I get mad and wanna

eat you, then you have to say, 'Oh, okay. You can eat me. I love you. Whatever

makes you happy, Judith.' That's what you're supposed to do! "

Can I just say major flashbacks/triggering going on???? I couldn't watch the

rest of the movie after that. Awful! I feel a little sick to my stomach now just

thinking about it ...

My sister and I went to see that movie at a theater when it came

out. I did find it disturbing and hard to watch in places. I

also found it rather lacking in plot to the point where I don't

really remember what happened beyond some of the characters

being bullies. The main thing I remember is that that the power

went out in the middle of the movie for no apparent reason.

That movie was on the Family Channel earlier today.  I tried to watch it, but I

really didn't get the point of the movie.  It couldn't hold my attention.  My

mom came over before the movie was over, and I turned it off.  I am not even

curious as to how it ended.

Janet

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own

understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Just finished watching it.

I never read the book.

It is disturbing and triggering. The main character (the kid, Max) is

acting out due to some attention neglect by his family, and what looks like

a deceased/divorced/gone father. But the monsters all seem to be

magnifications of aspects of childhood acting out due to various

influences, but mostly abandonment and neglect. Yet they " seem " somewhere

in between adults and children. The main monster, Carol (male), definitely

has rage/abandonment/enmeshment issues and wants someone else to make

everything and everyone OK. Judith is the sniping, I'm never good enough

acting out personality (very BPD). Sort of a " PD " island!

Whew! Not an easy movie to watch -- I cannot imagine the appeal to kids

other than the neat monster suits/CGI, and I'm not sure what really was

resolved when Max returned home.
