Hi Steve, A lot of people have higher number when they are ill. If you continue to keep this cold, you may want to let your doctor know. hugs Eunice

Is this a normal reaction to illness? > Typically blood sugar will go up when you are sick. Drink extra fluids, make sure you take your meds if you are on any, and monitor your BG more often. It's a good idea to have a plan of what to do from your dr or diabetic educator (if you have one) for sick days as your BG will most likely be higher at those times. It's even more important as a diabetic when sick to get rest since extra stress will also contribute to a higher number. Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
hmm, that is now making me wonder: I have a chronic leukemia and neutropenia as well as RA and fibromyalgia. don't ask!!!! I wonder what that has to do, if anything with my sudden onset of diabetes 4+ wks ago. I am on prednisone (getting off it slowly but surely) and I know that drug can precipitate diabetes. I am still wondering if I really have diabetes or just the symptoms which will go away as I get rid of the pred? Who knows? I just know the symptoms are what will hurt me and I have to deal with that at the moment. I'll ask that of the dr on Tues too! What a list :-) JUDITH Re: High BG and a cold > > In a message dated 2/23/2006 6:58:57 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, > stevelucas44@... writes: > > How does an illness such as a cold affect BG levels?
