Guest guest
There is a program through my insurance company called Healthy Returns in which I can call 24 hours a day and speak to a RN about anything. I called this evening to talk to her about the problem I'm having with kidney stones (See So frustrated with doctor thread). This is a great program. I talked to her for 37 minutes without feeling rushed like I do when I call my docs office and talk to a nurse. To be eligible, you have to have diabetes, asthma, or heart problems. I talked to her and she gave me some good advice about the situation with the doctor Im seeing and my kidney stone and about getting a referral to a urologist. She also told me that I need to see an eye doctor but she advised me to wait until my blood sugar levels are normal because it will not be as accurate when my blood sugar is high and affecting my vision. My last A1C was 6.4 in January, but from November to January, when I checked my blood sugar, it was never under 250 since my doctor took me off insulin and started me on glucophage. She agreed with me that my A1C seemed to be wrong. I have the one Touch ultra smart, and the 90 day average in January when I had the A1C was 280. My doc told me that I must have had alot of lows to balance out the highs, but I was having highs around 500 and lows of 250 which are not even close to being low. I see my new doc March 17 and I am going to ask ot repeat the A1C because I have a feeling that it will be very high. I am just having a really hard time now with my blood sugar, it could be beacause of the pain from the kidney stone. My fasting today was 202. My 4 year old came up to me today and asked me if he could do anything for me, I jokingly said, yeah, you could make me some Chicken, green beans, and corn. He looked at me an laughed and said I can't do that, I'm too little. Then 5 minutes later he came to me with a Peanut Butter Sandwich that he made for me, I almost cried it was so sweet. He used the heal of the bread and the first slice, and put PB on half of it and couldn't spread it on all of it. It was so sweet of him, I ate all of it and it was the best PB sandwich I've ever had. Then he brought me a glass of water. He is the sweetest child ever. After that PB sandwich, my blood sugar was 309. Thanks for listening to my vent, I've been really bored sitting around the house for the last week and it really helps to read everyones posts here. Guest guest
Hi Mindy, Do you have Anthem for your insurance? We have Anthem and they have a program like that. (I forget what they call it). They have a nurse that calls me once a month to see how my son is doing and answer any questions I have. It's very nice to just be able to ask questions and get some answers. Of course, she calls just before or just after the times I told her were the best times to call so it can be a bit hectic around me while I try to talk to her (I do childcare and asked her to call during naptime). The story about your son is sooooo cute! That was very sweet of him. Now just teach him to put together a low carb snack for you and all will be perfect!!! How about some cheese and sandwich meat..he can handle that. Guest guest
Many insurance companies (dare I say most) offer some type of voluntary 'case management' to answer questions and make suggestions to improve your health (and subsequently reduce their costs). Never hurts to read all of the promotional 'junk' that comes with your policy! ;-) Mike > > Do you have Anthem for your insurance? We have Anthem and they have a > program like that.
