It IS confusing, but my non-medical, layman's opinion is that our nadas probably

have (or had; my nada is deceased) Axis I disorders as well as Axis II or

personality disorders, and the meds helped them with the Axis I portion of their

problems. My nada reluctantly took a mood-stabilizing med for a while, and my

Sister said the result was like " a small miracle " . Our nada seemed much more

relaxed and happy, less critical, bossy, or demanding, or more " normal " , as it

were. But our nada didn't like taking the antidepressant med, she said it made

her feel " weird " , so she refused to take it again after the prescription ran

out.
