hello Gerald:

That is wonderful that you have embraced technology and are using your meter

to its fullest! I think of how much better the meters are compared to even

10 years ago, same w/needles.) However, you don't want to have sore fingers

for the rest of your life! (Have you ever charted or graphed your numbers?

I'm an engineer and have always thought of doing that. And as much as you

try, you cannot make a science out of diabetes. You have to accept that.)

Have you asked your doctor how many times you should test a day? I would do

that and see if you can narrow it down to say, 3 times a day. Once fasting

before any given meal or upon getting up and another after meals and maybe

after a work-out. Don't obsess over highs, we all get them occasionally.

Your other numbers (cholesteral, blood pressure, etc.) sound great. Keep up

the good work. Do you see a pattern in your numbers? Do you feel

comfortable making some assumptions based on that? If you see some

consistency, you should be able to eat without checking every meal and hour.

Maybe you should see a dietician or nutritionalist to see how you can adjust

your diet to lower your evening after meal readings. Take it a day at a

time. Calm down. Eat a well balanced and healthy diet, start an exercise

program that fits into your schedule (make it fit!). You are in control of

how many times you test. See what your doctor recommends and don't be a

slave to your meter.

We are all victims of the same unfortunate cirumstances, be it genetic or

weight related or whatever. Accept that and do the best you can with what

you have.

Above all, live long and prosper! You don't want Dr. McCoy or Dr. Crusher

on your doorstep with their tricorder in hand! (Maybe you do, but that

would be a sight especially since Dr. McCoy has since passed on, may he rest

in peace).

Good luck,

PamK
