Guest guest
Wow, I read part of the article, and the descriptions of her recurring rages and wildly violent physical abuse, her suicide threats, her paranoia and blaming others for all her problems sounds like borderline pd to me; but then, the heavy drinking she did would eat away a person's executive function and cause them to be belligerent, delusional, paranoid and violent also. Apparently a psychiatrist who did see her, or at least meet her and observe her a little, indicated in the article that he thinks she probably had borderline pd. What completely baffles ME is that although Bobby wrote in his deposition that she was physically violent toward him *before they were married* he chose to marry her anyway (!?) I just can't wrap my mind around *wanting to marry* someone who evidences such behaviors, and then actually *having children with them*???!!! I mean, yes, this woman was physically stunningly gorgeous and was described as being intelligent and creative as well, but how could anyone want to *marry* someone who evidences borderline pd traits toward them? Maybe in the beginning, her paranoid, hostile, violent behaviors were less frequent and less intense? Or maybe Bobby is a " rescuer " type, or maybe it was easier to live in denial instead of dealing with the issue early? How sad; tragic, even, that even though 's foo and the Kennedys are very wealthy families that could afford the very best medical treatment available, still, refused to go in for any kind of treatment on her own... and when she finally did agree to go in for an evaluation, it pushed her over the edge into suicide. I just hope that her 4 children are in therapy; they have to have been scarred deeply by witnessing their mother's terrifying, bewildering behaviors and knowing that she killed herself; poor little ones. Makes me wonder if was an anomaly in her family of origin (like my own nada was, as unlike her other foo members in personality as a cuckoo chick in a robin's nest) or if there were other family members who evidenced the same traits and behaviors as did. -Annie > > I was reading this week about Bobby Kennedy, Jr's wife, , who killed herself last month. Guest guest
I just read the article in Newsweek (here's an online bit: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/06/10/the-last-days-of-mary-richardso\ n-kennedy.html) about Kennedy. Having read other articles about her volatile behavior I assumed she had BPD, but no other article mentioned it. This one did. It's funny how I came here to post about it, and I am glad someone already noticed. Hopefully this will help bring some awareness to this mental disorder. - Cvidz > > I was reading this week about Bobby Kennedy, Jr's wife, , who killed herself last month. Guest guest
The print version of the article is much more extensive, with specific examples-- even how she had clearly had split her daughter Kick as the " bad child. " The daughter had confided in Bobby Jr that her mother hated her. Psychologists diagnosed with BPD, and directed Bobby Jr to read books including " I Hate You, Don't Leave Me. " The children were exposed to it to. The article reads, " After their separation, 'Bobby would arrive to take the kids and she would throw a screaming fit... the kids were all witnessing a lot of this stuff... Horror. Just horror. And I loved . I want that to be known. I adored her. I didn't adore what BPD did to her. Guest guest
Thanks for posting this link. I read the whole thing and watched all the videos that were throughout the pages. Lawrence Learner gave an insightful interview and made me sit up when he said that Kennedy may make BPD " his " issue and bring awareness to the world about BPD, just as Eunice Shriver did with mental disabilities. WOW, wouldn't that be a help to us all!! I'm so disappointed in the mental health field because it is so reluctant to label people as BPD when they know they're not just suffering from depression or anxiety. My nada was treated for 40 years with anti-depressants and sleeping pills by a family doctor with NO psychiatric treatment or counseling. I think sometimes that BPD/NPDs are so scary that the medical community is afraid of riling them. Instead, they let families suffer and make do with bandaid treatments. Look at what went through--he says he was beaten and injured by , and others in the family state they saw his injuries. He could have easily been killed. This is a cautionary tale...
