<< From: Anne Kunzen <kunzen@...>

Joan, Thank you for this touching poem. My MIL had to have her Shar

Pei put to sleep yesterday(skin cancer), and I think this will help

comfort her.

Wiping my eyes, Anne in IL >>

I am so sorry to hear that. I have been bird sitting for my friend who found

out in January she has breast cancer, and had a double mastectomy last month.

Anyway, I have had her 2 birds a cockatiel and parakeet. Well, the cockatiel

has had a huge bump by his butt. She took him to the vet months ago and they

told her just to change his diet! Well, the bump got bigger and over the past

week he has been on the bottom of the cage and wobbling. I called her and

told her about it and asked if she wanted to take him to the vet. I really

didn't expect him to live much longer and felt she should know. She came over

Wednesday and took him to the vet and found out that the *bump* was the poor

things intestines falling down. She decided to put him to sleep. I cried. I

have had both birds for a couple months and am her bird sitter when she goes

on vacations. So, I had gotten attached to him. When she called to tell me

what was decided I asked her if he had been in any pain, bcs of the huge

bump. The vet said he hadn't been in any pain. I felt a great relief for

that. The sad part now is the parakeet is alone. They really loved each

other. Strange match, I know. And they were in love, if you get what I mean.

It was funny watching them be *intimate*. LOL

Anyhow, what I was getting at is, after my friend called me I sent her a copy

of the Rainbow Bridge poem that I got from this list. I thought maybe you

would like to give it to your MIL. It still gives me comfort for loved pets I

lost years ago. If you need a copy of it, let me know.

Hugs,
