Guest guest
Hi. I hope this isn't to alternative crunchy granola for you guys! Now that I understand FOG...I just started to wonder if the knots in my stomach and stress in my body are related. I always do better with liver cleanse tea, etc. = clearer skin and overall health...and this last year I've learned that in Chinese medicine the liver is associated with anger. Hmmm.... And my friend does kinesiology (sp?) and she just tested me emotionally for fun and said I had a lot of anger! A LOT. Hmm... OK....soooo if this is true...HOW DO I GET RID OF IT THEN?!!!!!!!! Any tips? Thanks. Oh...and I've tried praying...praying to see my BPD Mom/Dysfunctional family with compassion...and praying for them to heal...and praying for patience, insight and wisdom...forgiveness. It seems to help...at least a bit. I'm sure this is a continuing journey. BTW, Right now my mom hasn't returned my call for 3 weeks.
Guest guest
Actually, that is a " given. " For quite some time now many highly respected scientific research studies have been conducted on the effects of stress, and have concluded that excessive stress has a direct and clearly negative impact on both physical health and emotional health. Even one short-term, random but severely stressful event can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (like being in a car accident or being physically assaulted). We adult children of mentally ill, personality-disordered and/or alcoholic parents experienced (or are still experiencing) chronic, pervasive lower-grade stress interspersed with severe stress episodes over the first decades of our lives which can result in a longer-term negative impact: complex-ptsd. C-ptsd is not an officially recognized condition at this time, but there is a movement within the psychiatric community to have c-ptsd added as a sub-category of ptsd to the DSM. Chronic/long-term stress can have a negative impact on many systems of the body, resulting in things like high blood pressure, migraine headaches, insomnia, anxiety, gastrointestinal upset, depression, and more. So, whatever you find that has a de-stressing effect on you that is not unhealthy in its own right, is a good thing (obviously, alcohol and illegal drugs generate their own negative physical and emotional impact and cause even more stressful problems). But things like meditation, prayer, healthy teas/healthy eating, getting enough high-quality sleep, moderate, regular exercise, socializing with friends, having interesting hobbies, exercising your creativity, learning a new skill, etc., are all good. So whatever floats yer boat: go for it! -Annie > > Hi. Guest guest
I think there is a definite chance that the knots in your stomach and the stress in your boday are related to having to deal with your FOO and its FOG. Continual stress can be very damaging to your health. If it goes on long enough the health problems can continue even after the cause of the stress is gone. Anger can be a very stressful emotion. It doesn't have to be though. There are different ways of dealing with anger. Some of them are constructive. Some of them are destructive. One way to help get rid of the anger is to deal with it in a constructive way. Let the flames of your anger fuel an effort to do something about the causes of it. If the anger is coming from dealing with a nada, then use the anger to get up the courage to do things to protect yourself from her. I don't know enough about your relationship with her to make recommendations about what to do, but I'm sure you can get some ideas from other posts. Another way to get rid of anger is to accept that the things your nada does to you are not really personal. When BPD is involved, it isn't who you are that makes you the target. The fact that you exist at all makes you the target. The exact method of hurting you is chosen to fit you personally but if you were a different person the attacks would still go on. If you can get past whatever has been done to you and see your nada as a pathetic, mentally ill woman who feels like she has to mistreat everyone around her, that may lessen your anger considerably. A third way to deal with anger is to fill your life with good emotions. Keep yourself busy with things that you enjoy. Listen to music that makes you feel good. Spend time with people whose company you enjoy. It is hard to hold on to anger when you're feeling cheerful and happy. It is much easier to let the anger build up if you're bored and have lots of time to think unpleasant thoughts and dwell on what is wrong. Guest guest
Wow, I've been seriously considering physical ailments/disorders being caused by long term stress of growing up w/ a Queen/witch's mother. I'm interested in this thread! I'm specifically interested in links between BPD and immune system disorders. Anyone know of studies done? I can't even think of how they would be able to conduct a valid medical study on such things. I'm sure there must be psychological studies...hrm. I'll ask my rheumatologist when I go on for my monthly infusion =) I'm a big believer in prayer, positive thought, and hard work to help every ailment in life! Easier said than done, but never give up!!!
Guest guest
Hi! I've mentioned this before, but the only thing that helped improve my health was going to an acupuncturist. On the 1st appointment he said I had liver problems (speaking from the Chinese Medical sense) and he immediately asked me if I had a bad childhood. I took his herbal prescriptions and to this day, feel a lot better. The anger still persists though. I am thinking about going for biofeedback because I don't know how else to shake this anger/anxiety. So, to answer your last question...is it related? Oh YES!!! Guest guest
I have a medical condition that has been proven by 20 years of research to be sort of a physical form of an anxiety disorder. I have talked about it here. Lots of those kinds of disorders stem from muscle tension, which is a way our bodies take on the stress and anxiety to help us stay in control. I have spent the last 4-5 months in both physical therapy, and in trauma/EMDR therapy weekly. exercise is a huge help for muscle tension issues, but I needed PT because I have had this problem for my whole life and as a result needed to rehabilitate some muscles. exercise fatigues the muscles(which helps them relax), and releases endorphins. I have been impressed at how much this all has helped me. our heath has to be approached from all sides. about 6 months ago I was more depressed than I have ever been and now because of hard work and good doctors I am better than ever. my guess is your instinct that this is stress related is correct. so many things we can do like exercising (which I MIGHT be starting to like a little) have nothing but good to offer us. Take it slow, and don't assume you need to be sore for it to work. find what works for you and makes sense for your situation. no one has the market cornered on the " right " way to do anything.
