I have written a 10 page story about my mother - its called Walking The Line. I

am not even close to finished and as I try and remember all the stories, all

the abuse and the name calling I find myself writing and writing and writing. I

hope to eventually get this published in a magazine or newspaper. This morning

I re-worked the opening paragraph and wanted to share it here. See below

During many of Sondra’s psychotic moments of uncontrollable, rollercoaster

rage,  verbally abusive attacks and paranoid outbursts, she would call her

husband “Mr. Auschwitz.â€Â  While some couples have loving, “pet

names†for each other, Sondra found this name to be suitable and

appropriate.  Sondra is convinced that is sneaky and a compulsive liar.

She is sure he is stealing her money, hiding mail and that he had removed her

name from his bank checks. In a shrill that only dogs could hear, she would

scream, “You are so devious that you probably would have been the only Jew who

would have come out of Auschwitz fat and fully clothed.â€Â  When I think about

the distorted mind that someone must have to formulate a theory like this one,

it makes it difficult to admit that “Mr. Auschwitz†is my father and that

Sondra was, until recently, the woman who I would call my mother.
