Everone has the dawn phenomenon. If you test your bs when your first wake,

and then dont eat and check your sugars an hour or so later, you will find it

drops.

Hi ,

This doesn't happen to me. My bg's are always below 100 fasting. If I wait

a couple hours before eating, there is very little change.

My BS will continue to rise in the morning until I eat something with a small

amount of carbs. After having this disease for 4 years, keeping records, and

trying just about everything, I still can't find or do anything that stops the

dawn rise. I have finally just accepted that that's how it is. What I do is

when I wake up I inject 12 units of Novolog and eat a small amount of carbs

<usually under 10> and it comes back down to normal within an hour. My morning

numbers, when I wake up, are anywhere between 145 and 175 <usually 175>. I

can't find any rhyme nor reason of what I did differently when it's 145 vs when

it's 175.

Something interesting....... I woke up at 3:30 this morning and couldn't get

back to sleep. I checked my numbers because I am seldom awake at that time. It

was 135. It was also 135 when I went to bed. So I know this dawn thing is

happening between 3:30AM and 7:00AM. That's nice to know, but I still don't

know how to remedy it unless I get up at 4:00 every morning and shoot insulin.

That doesn't sound practical so I will just continue doing what I am doing.
